Digital - No FLASH - many artists are not super fond of flash. Although I would love to add on some pics.
Maybe someday I could flash next to the set lights and then it becomes part of the show.
For now I shoot natural light and work from the outside of the crowd.
I am hoping to get front stage and shoot some wide close shots,
but I need more JB fans to invite me to step on their toes - maybe this weekend I will venture to the front.
For now I feel the show is yours to enjoy up close.
For exposure - I use manual verse automatic. Most clubs are not super high lighting so it forces you to "up the iso"
I have been using mostly 800 iso- (asa in film terms), average exposure ranges shutter 60 to 125 and aperture from 2.8 to 5.6.
Safest bet is shutter/aperture 80 f4. But again it varies as the light changes.
I also base exposure on skin tone values and not the entire area.
Why do I shoot tight frames ? Well that's easy ... I am old and blind. LOL.
Actually I am blind and have a very hard time to focus unless I can see my subject fill the frame.
I find it difficult to see and focus a large stage.
I also use selective focus when shooting two people like Mark & Joe (pic 4)
The focus is on Mark in this one and Joe is softer focus giving Mark the attention or "main subject".
In pic 3 the role is reversed and Mark becomes the foundation for Joe to be the lead.
David - pic 6, There is more going on in that pic then most will see.
BB feel (yes, it's there), want more .... http://www.fotopete.com/jb/pics/mohegan7.jpg
I hope that helps.
