Topic: Less action?

It seems like this forum gets a lot less traffic than in the past. Any reason for that - alternate site - or something. I know Joe's fan numbers are still growing. I must admit, though I visit the forum every day, my posts have also fallen off.

Facebook has had a lot to do with numbers falling on many a forum.

Re: Less action?

It is Facebook where Joe has a giant page plus several fan pages, people who used to post here are posting on Fb now. Also a lot of people moved to Joe's instagram/twitter where he sometimes replies and likes people comments, so they feel like he is reading what they post.

Re: Less action?

Some of us "dinosaurs" were always a bit wary of Facebook, and in light of recent events were maybe wise.

All things said though, Joe used to look in on here from time to time though it seems to have been a while since, though I may be wrong there.

Re: Less action?

I haven’t been entirely excited about the last few live releases. I like a lot of the older more bluesy rock from the older releases and I’m only mildly interested by the song choices in the British Blues cd coming. Feels like I’ve done seen and heard them for a couple years now even though it was last summer.  I’ll always pitch in when it comes to the solo release and really loved the playing on the last Joe and Beth album. I’m about tired of a lot of the covers from the last few special runs but would like to see a lot more of joes original stuff in the live releases. He’s really developed on his own and doesn’t need to fall back on them.

Still love him just looking forward to the new solo stuff.

Re: Less action?

The board's copyright ended in 2009, according to the bottom of the page. Maybe that has something to do with it.

(No, that's not supposed to make sense.)

Re: Less action?

Thanks for the input guys, you're right - probably a combination of many factors. P.S. - thanks to Jane H. for the "nice avatar" comment - '83 Les Custom named Ralph & 2016 Aussie named Gracie (after Grace Slick)

Re: Less action?

Haven't been here in a long time, probably because, like some of you, I haven't been thrilled by some of the latest offerings. Also didn't want to come & post negative comments, just for the sake of it. But with the new live album that came out this week, I felt I had to post a little something. Finally a live album to my likings! No acoustic (don't mind a song or too, but a full show, for me it's snooze fest), and no horns!!! Just great rock songs with some amazing guitar shreds. Seems he's finally found his speed again.

Unlike most of you, I've only discovered Joe with BCC, being a GH fan, and loved his stuff back then. But in the last 3-5 years I had love/unlove feeling about his directions. I hate it when I BUY the albums, BUY the tickets and attend a show where he plays somehing totally out of left field instead of the material he's recorded. Again this fall, I have my tickets for Quebec City but I'm so scared of having to witness a country music concert!!! Besides rap/hip hop and pretty much what's playing on the radio these days, country is my least favorite style. Hopefully it will just a summer thing and we'll get the full Joe treatment this fall. Would be nice if he goes back to his regular stuff, don't really care about which songs, but at least songs he's actually played on and recorded, that we bought and that are familiar. I always felt concerts we're a lot more enjoyable when you do actually know the songs. Just my 2 cents

Re: Less action?

That would be a great forum name
Les Action!!
It kind of struck me like a slap to he head reading this post that perhaps the new and improved Joe has lost a lot of old timer fans with his new direction.
So this forum has always been driven by the older Joe fans.
I thought perhaps people have dropped off the bonaplanet because there was always the Bonawho factor. You kind of were in a special club the discovered this great talent and had to go out into the world and have the challenge of bringing  in new J.B. fans on that street team level.
So Joes pretty big now ,so the special little club doesn’t have the same feeling.
Like look at me I have a great secret that you don’t know about.
I’m sure there are many reasons and I don’t get the Facebook thing in regards to the format. This is so much better a format to discuss and share.

Re: Less action?

I'm on Facebook and the posts there are days after he's already posted the same thing on Twitter .

Leads me to believe Facebook isnt updated by Joe

Re: Less action?

I must admit I miss the occasional comment from Joe. On the other hand I do follow his (and many other guitarists) on Instagram since they often post these impromptu little videos of them playing and a few of them are exceptional.

I have seen on the John Mayer forum that they created a 'Musicians Forum' thread and it has been going strong since Mayer's last appearance on '05. They talk about Mayer's rig (of the day in his case), play his songs with YouTube links and show off their gear. I have suggested this happen here to keep things really going (and so we could see a lot of people playing and teaching Joe's style) but it just never caught on. Maybe now is the time?
