Topic: Paul Jones leaving the BBC R2 Blues Show

Paul Jones, frontman of Manfred Mann and The Blues Band, has decided to retire as host of his Monday-night Blues Show on BBC Radio 2.

I know Joe will be sad and thankful for Paul's time on the Radio Show as Joe credits Paul for a lot of the exposure he got to the British audiences and the time he gave on-air to Joe and his music, as well as thousands of other blues acts across the world.

Sad to hear . Read it last night but there is a shake up of presenters on the channel, he may have retired or been retired. I hope it was the first option. His show has always been a great blues platform especially for Joe. Who was the first guest at RAH for example. smile

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

From radio 2 blog page:-

"Cerys Matthews joins the Radio 2 fold when she takes over the Blues Show from Paul Jones who is leaving the network after many years as the regular host. I’d like to wish Paul the very best and thank him for igniting and then keeping the Blues flame alive on Radio 2 for many years. Cerys is an expert music curator, with a genuine and deep passion for Blues music (not to mention a vinyl collection that runs into the thousands), and I’m sure she’ll bring a new twist to our Blues programming, with a few surprises thrown in. We look forward very much to welcoming her to this programme, which will be presented live in its new slot of 8pm–9pm on Monday evenings."

Re: Paul Jones leaving the BBC R2 Blues Show

I suspect it was Paul wanting to step down, rather than being pushed out. If they were doing away with the blues hour that would be different, but he is a part of the institution around their in the same vein as Terry Wogan was and just as much as Johnny Walker with his country show.

Paul will be missed, but I guess he feels like he's done all he can with the show and it's time to hand over the reins to someone new.

Re: Paul Jones leaving the BBC R2 Blues Show

On the Paul Jones show tonight, he said the last show will be broadcast on 23rd April 2018.  In the show he interviewed Joe & Beth Hart.  Joe thanked Paul for his support over the years and invited Paul to play a guest slot at the three Royal Albert Hall 10th anniversary shows next year.

Thanks for the update, I'll hopefully catch the show on replay.
I expect there will be quite a few guests at the RAH next year.
