Topic: Heisman Candidate

It is early in the season, but my Aztecs are very good this year and it is due in large part to their Sr. running back.
Donnel Pumphrey is leading the nation in rushing and has passed quite a few luminaries in his career rushing TD totals and now ranks #14 all time after passing Marshall Faulk Friday night with another 2 td's and 220 yards. He is over 1000 yards with 5 games played. Aztecs are 4-1.

Watch for this athlete if a game is broadcast. He is amazing. Small at 185, but lightning quick with moves to match and that cut and burst that puts him in open field situations before the defence can react. Then he's often long-gone.

Watched him beat the Cal Bears earlier this season. He's good, but you know a player from a bigger program with weaker stats will probably get the trophy.

Re: Heisman Candidate

tough loss vs South Alabama, but he still had 151 yards @ 6 yards per carry and a TD....... he is impressive. I would like to throw Jalen Hurts name in the hat too, although he is a true freshman. Bama also has 3 running backs that could get into the mix before long, Harris is the standout and Joshua Jacobs not too far behind him. Bo Scarborough is really starting to pick it up now vs his first few games.

Re: Heisman Candidate

I will watch him tonight vs San Jose since I will be up for the golf in Kuala Lumpur anyway. He should have a real good game against a much of nothing Spartan defense, could be a blowout.

If he manages 200 again tonight, he will move up to #5 on the all time rushing list. One of the Aztecs WR's is out so he will have plenty of chances.
edit to add, a yawner rout as they showed the passing game to pull them off the line and open up the running game. I switched to the Cal-Oregon match at the half which was a barn burner. Aztecs are now bowl eligible with the win. Another 112 for him.

Re: Heisman Candidate

Well, the travesty ran out and tv ratings trumped talent and performance.
Penny led the nation in 4 of the 5 offensive categories and was #2 in the other with nary a listing in the final cut. That behind a line of young players, mainly jrs and sophs. He didn’t even make the list for the Doake award for the best running back, though the ghost of Doake reportedly addressed the team in the locker room, saying he didn’t give a flyer for the voting folks and presented the award to Rashaad Penny.
One more bowl game to play. Expect the team to make a statement on the field. I feel sorry for what Army is going to receive. The all-time rushing NCAA record is within reach.
He’ll be a shoo-in for a 1st round draft pick. The pros know what counts.
Tune in and watch him, he’s exciting to see play and a threat to score each time he has the ball.

Armed Forces Bowl Dec. 23 on ESPN. Enjoy watching a back who has it all. He’s a serious threat to bust a td run each time he gets the ball, which is a lot.
