So cool to see this. First the BMA's and now the SENA Guitar award. Huge congratulations to Joe! So nice to see he is finally being given the recognition he deserves.

Walter won this award a couple of years back and I'm glad they picked a true guitar great in previous winner Jan Akkerman,  to present Joe with the award. 

Jan is truly a remarkable guitarist who genuinely plays everything from fingerstyle medieval and renaissance music on guitar and lute, through Jazz, Gipsy Swing, Blues, Rock, Orchestral and everything in between.  He's jammed with BB King, Paco De Lucia, Ice T, Charlie Byrd, Stochelo Rosenberg and the list goes on.

Just look at what he was doing in 1972/73 - Page, Clapton, Beck and Blackmore couldn't play like this. The 3rd solo at 2:40 is amazing.

True - It was voted for by the readers of MM which was a huge circulation music newspaper. I probably voted in that very poll.  Although in '73 I was obsessed with Ritchie Blackmore after hearing 'Made in Japan' (Still the greatest live album ever made).

I knew Focus from 'Sylvia' which was a big hit '72, but it was some years later when I got to see them live that my now 40+ year obsession with Akkerman started.
