Nice to see Guitar Shorty getting some love here. I had the opportunity to see him play at a small club here in Denver several years ago. Have to admit to prior to that show I was not familiar with him at all. I definitely became a fan seeing him play live (and interacting with him after the show) and have since acquired several of his albums. I definitely recommend seeing him live if you have the chance. I enjoy his albums but preferred the live performance. Even at his age he was still a very dynamic and entertaining performer.
Not sure if you are aware already, but I was quite surprised to find out that he was a big influence on Jimi Hendrix and the Guitar Shorty Married Jimi's half sister. He talked to me for a long time after the show and was incredibly friendly and engaging. Took pics with me and signed a couple things. He talked a lot about Jimi which was very cool. One of the stories that stood out was Shorty talking about how Jimi really liked Shorty's level of "performance" he incorporated into his shows. Apparently Shorty was known for doing backflips during his shows back in the day, etc. Jimi wanted to have a similar level of showmanship and performance and that was the inspiration/basis that ultimately led to Jimi lighting his guitars on fire.
Definitely worth checking out.
