Congrats to Joe ... and the new owner. (Would be great if a Forum Family member.)

Nice to see Joe apologise for the awful Bonabird.

Re: JB Prototype LP Now For Sale at Norman's

As nice as this is I still wish Joe would cozy up to amother guitar company (fender) just long enough for them to make a signature 'Goldie" strat. Life would be complete... cool

Re: JB Prototype LP Now For Sale at Norman's

Joe could make a Sitar sound good.. but what was wrong with the Bonabird?

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

I don't know Joe's reasons for apologising for the Bonabird but my own view is that it is possibly the ugliest guitar I can recall. The Les Paul and Firebird are both great guitars and design icons that each have their own sound. I have 2 Les Pauls and 1 Firebird. The Firebird is my favourite Gibson guitar. But to bring the two guitars together, in my view, simply does not work aesthetically. Technically there may be a case for having the tuners 6 in a line instead of 3 each side so as to increase the tension on the E, A and D strings but the same can be achieved with a trapeze tailpiece or simply using heavier guage strings. I have seen Joe play the Bonabird and it sounded like a Les Paul.

I've no idea how many Bonabirds Gibson sold but I can't help but wonder how it would have been received if it had been launched without any association with Joe. Perhaps they could have called it The Les Bird!

I think the Bonabird happened at a time when Gibson were trying some radical design changes and perhaps would not happen today.

Re: JB Prototype LP Now For Sale at Norman's

Joe mentioned 10,000 guitars were sold....how many were Epiphone made ones ???
( I think there were 3 runs on the Gold top Epi models...not sure on the pelham blue & the green l/p models..)

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: JB Prototype LP Now For Sale at Norman's

I remember Max Guitars (Netherlands) had a replica a couple of years ago for sale ... case and all.

From the description ... built by the Fender Custom Shop ... a COA ... a Joe signature somewhere on it (or the COA) ... could only find images from their Facebook post at this point ... (looks like it will show up even if you don't FaceBook ... hit the "Not Now" on the Log In / Join pop up box to drop it down a bit.)
