Topic: Celebrity Jam Charity Event Featuring Joe

I was watching a new you tube video today from Norm's rare guitars ( where Joe is often featured) that was labeled as a Bob Dylan/Robbie Robertson guitar visits the store.  While that content is in the video ( Robbie's son brought the guitar by the shop) a good portion of the video is promoting a charity event Norm, Joe, and others are doing to support the Midnight Mission homeless organization in LA.

I wanted to get the word out here in case anyone on the forum is interested.  Especially if you are in the LA area.  Seems like a pretty unique opportunity.  Not a lot of details given in the video.  It is a celebrity jam benefit that Joe will be performing at along with Dave Amato from Reo Speedwagon and others to raise money for the organization.  It is being held at the home of Don Boehm on January 14th at 7pm in LA.  It also mentions food and wine as part of the event in a general way.  Quick searches of the websites for Norm's and Midnight Mission didn't offer any additional information on the event.

The video indicates anyone interested in attending should email Don Boehm for the specifics at:  donboehm@yahoo.com

Here is a link to the youtube video.  Joe is featured so even if not interested in the event you might want to watch the video for Joe content anyway.

Thanks very much

Re: Celebrity Jam Charity Event Featuring Joe

I attended the event in a different locale before. It is a hoot and well worth the effort. To sweeten the pot, it is a tax deduction.  Thanks for the heads up.

They will be at our event this coming Saturday where Joe will be hosting our Celebrity Jam, raising money for LA's homeless, The Midnight Mission. What do you guys think of Joe and Guy?

Re: Celebrity Jam Charity Event Featuring Joe

Phil, Linda, Bob and I went to this celebrity event. It was one of the coolest things. It was held at a very large lavish home in Camarillo, CA called Villa Boehm. You can google the home's name and see a video of what it looks like. The event was to help raise money for the Midnight Mission in LA that helps the enormous population of homeless that are in the area. Norman Harris from Norms Rare Guitars put the event together and he even played keyboards on a number of songs. There were many different musicians from different bands who all took turns playing different songs together. The musicians and the guests all hung out together. It was incredibly cool and low key. Most of these people had never played together before and they also were unfamiliar with the songs. There was a large room with a very small stage in it and as the room started filling with people, I got pushed closer and closer to the stage. It made it quite tricky for filming since the guitarists were separated by the drummer so the videos are a bit odd at times when the guitarists were going back and forth. I couldn't pan out since I was so close so the camera goes back and forth. Joe played on 8 songs. Three with Rick Vito who used to be the guitarist and singer in Fleetwood Mac. Then he played 3 with Jason Sinay and then 2 with Josh Smith and Kirk Fletcher. Joe brought his new favorite guitar, the beautiful blonde '59 345. It is such a gorgeous guitar and sounds amazing. Has quite the bite to it. It was fun hanging out with him when he was showing it off to Kirk and Josh. Love listening to Joe talk about guitars. I'm currently working on uploading the videos.

See See Baby https://youtu.be/pugNb_nqY24  Joe & Rick Vito

Never Make Your Move Too Soon https://youtu.be/CRUCtE-dql8  Joe & Rick Vito.  This one was so cool because it shows how Joe was going over the song with Rick at the beginning. Then while they were playing, Joe shows his multitasking abilities, lol. He was chewing gum, held the pick between his lips, was singing and playing while putting up hand signals for the chord changes. It was wild!

There was a break before Joe and Jason Sinay played. So during this break I was hanging out for a little bit in the room where some of the musicians were. Joe said to Jason, "Come on, let's play together. We don't have any drummer, but that's okay, we'll just all imagine what a drummer sounds like". Too funny. They did find a drummer and then went out and started the next set.

Re: Celebrity Jam Charity Event Featuring Joe

Here are 2 songs that Joe played with Josh Smith & Kirk Fletcher. As Joe calls them, the two guitarists he fears the most. Can't wait to see these guys again on the cruise!

Crosscut Saw https://youtu.be/Vu-eqi_HhGw  For some reason the lights went out halfway through and no one seemed capable of putting them back on. Needless to say the video got a bit dark. People were shining their phone lights on the guitars so others could see. A triple back and forth with these three guys. Video gets a little crazy rotating back and forth between them all. But that's what our heads were doing too, lol.

Re: Celebrity Jam Charity Event Featuring Joe

Thank you so much Natasha!! ... Looks like it was a great place to experience Joe & Friends ... but tough to capture! smile ... Thanks for doing so ... and sharing!! Enjoying them!!

(First video I clicked on was "Never Make Your Move ... " ... saw the guy apologized for getting in your shot ... then he lowers down from view ... but then the periscope goes up (guessing his) ... smile ... challenging room to capture indeed ... but a great time I can only imagine.)  Your videos show the special "smallness" of the room ... and all that was going ... couldn't be better.

Digging "What You Trying To Do" with Jason Sinay.

(Well done on your Nerdvrlle Vegas sign ... now I realize why Phil lets you paint the house.)

I am amazed at the sign you made Joe!

look forward to hearing more about it!

Thanks Jane and Sam smile The sign was quite a project, but to see how much Joe absolutely loved it just made me so incredibly happy. Had stressed quite a bit about when to give it to him. Thought I was going to have to do it at a M&G but worried it would break on the bus or when he shipped it home. This was the perfect opportunity since he could take it straight home. He was as excited as a kid at Christmas. I couldn't have asked for a better reaction. So sweet of him to post about it on twitter and instagram. It was quite a complicated project because of all the different aspects to it. Especially figuring out how I was going to light it. Would at times wake up in the middle of the night with an epiphany about how to work out certain issues. I took photos of the work in progress. If anyone is interested. Thank you!  (I was wondering if a time-lapse video of your build was in the vault. smile )

I was curious about how the lettering was done ... looked perfect!

(Thought for a second you had painted ping pong balls ... but they were the bulbs (tough surface to spray w/o runs!!))

Great effort!!

Great effort!!

It was tough trying to figure out how to do the lettering. I knew I couldn't do it freehand. Was wandering around in Staples and came upon the clear plastic printable removable window cling stickers. Used Publisher to make up the design. The font for "Fabulous" was impossible to find because of the script with connecting letters, but finally found one that was pretty close. Had to use an "F" from one type of font and the rest of the word in another. Took a few tries to get the colors right also. Not to mention that the moment you touched the window sticker with a sweaty finger it left a permanent finger print. Had to redo it 3 times and of course was very stressed each time I applied it because of wanting it to be centered and with no bubbles. It's the part of the whole thing that is most prone to disaster. Told Joe to be sure to get no moisture on it. It becomes sticky. I found out the hard way, lol. The lettering of "Welcome" was done with white lettered stickers that I painted red. Had to do them twice because the first batch didn't match the red of "Nerdville". The yellow "bulbs" are really bulb covers for little decorative lights. I found them at Michael's Crafts. They had clear ones and all different colors except for yellow (of course). They actually look kind of like little round heads with small necks. The neck fits real snug into the holes I drilled. They aren't glued in. I spray painted them, but wasn't sure I'd be able to get it done in time because you have to use spray paint outside and since it's winter it was too cold to paint. Luckily we had 2 days in the past month that got above 50. The most recent just last week. Just in time smile

Re: Celebrity Jam Charity Event Featuring Joe

Thanks Natasha. It killed me to miss that gig but I just couldn't make it happen due to my situation.  Glad you were able to film and give that killer lamp to Joe. Nice work.

Norman's posted up a 22 minute Highlight video today (1/20/17) ... and mentions videos of each performance will be going up soon ...

Highlights from the Benefit Concert hosted by Joe Bonamassa

Here's some highlights from the Benefit Concert for LA's Homeless, The Midnight Missioin, hosted by Joe Bonamassa held at our good friend Donnie Boehm's beautiful house! You'll see Norm playing on keys with his old band "Angel City Rhythm Band" with Rick Vito, Dan Duehren, and Joe Yuele! Donnie and his band "The Well Hungarians"! Joe Bonamassa stepped in with Norm's band, and played with Jason Sinay, Bryan Hitt, Josh Smith, and Kirk Fletcher. There was also Joe Retta with "Heaven on Earth" and Dave Amato on Bass. Our talented friend Guy King also played and sang with Kirk and Chad Watson! We raised over $20,000 for the homeless and there will be more Celebrity Jams in the future! We want to thank Donnie again for having us at his home, and we will be posting full videos on each performance soon!
