Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

Off the top of my head I'd say:

Give It Back to You by The Record Company

Like An Arrow by Blackberry Smoke

Way Down Inside (songs of Willie Dixon) by Big Head Blues Club

                                                                                      Think Green,

                                                                                      J Dawg

I'm liking Metallica's "Hardwired To Self Destruct" more than I thought I would.

+1 ... my thoughts exactly.  Nice to hear the mighty Metallica sounding like it should.

One album that all blues rock lovers should check out is Scotty Bratcher's, "That Album".  Easily one of the best albums of 2016!!  Here's one cut from the album:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDMGdPgvdeU

Here's a track from Big Head Blues Club. Let Me Love You Baby featuring Ronnie Baker Brooks.

Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

Any objections if I add a late one to this thread? I only received this album over the holidays from a friend (and I see he's already given it his recommendation.... Thanks JDog) and it came like a large rock in a small pond.

Scotty Bratcher - That Album.

Just as a taster, here's Scotty's take on As The Years Go Passing By - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jxof9LHBhJY

Thanks for sharing, that was pretty cool.  His voice reminds me a bit of a younger Warren Haynes.

^^ Very cool! Scotty Rocks!

Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

I've been listening to this album a lot lately and it just gets better each play.  Easily the best thing for me last year.

Marcus King Band/Marcus King Band

Produced by Warren Haynes and he and fellow Allman guitarist, Derrek Trucks guest on the album, but it is this young stud, Marcus King, who gives an extraordinary performance.

I've been waiting for some time for someone who could play, and play different genres, and most of all sing, in a soulful in your face way.....Marcus is the new big thing out there.

Crobot - Welcome to Fat City

Gotta throw this one out there from last year.  Probably my favorite new band from the last few years.

Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

Hi,
I know we are in 2016 but this album was released in 2016 so it could be ok.
I listened to the Andy Timmons album "Theme from a Perfect World" and I love it!

Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

Gov't Mule - The Tel Star Sessions
Simo - Let Love Show The Way
Rival Sons - Hollow Bones
The Brew - Shake The Tree
Henrik Freischlader Trio - Openness

Guitars: 1974 LP Custom, 2013 R8
Amps: '88 JCM 800 w/ TV cab, Tone King Falcon
Effects: Fulltone Clyde, Monsterpiece Stud, EP Booster, Strymon El Capistan

Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

Hmmm..well BOD from Joe obviously, but my other 2 picks this year are somewhat less obvious and conventional. The excellently written "Joanne" from Lady Gaga and the best album Cheap Trick has released in a while," Bang, Zoom, Crazy, Hello" I was a little disappointed this year in both the Gary Clark release(nowhere near the 1st one, sorry) and the Rival Sons release...too short with songs that had already been recorded, just a little rushed, and I have very high expectations for this band.
Oh, and no one seems to care about Collective Soul anymore but they also released another great disc this year. If you've forgotten about this band, they're still recording and still making great catchy Rock tunes

Great tip there Curby; I'd also recommend Marcus' debut album from the previous year, Soul Insight.
Hard to believe he's barely just 20 wet through.
Found a great clip of Marcus jamming with Gov't Mule no less - What Is Hip - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTAx5aRyTvg

A late-ish release/arrival for consideration - Xander & The Peace Pirates - 11:11

Bit of a slow burner, mainly because I find it a bit on the "new-agey" side but the quality of the musician-ship just can't be ignored.
