Re: Keeping the Blues Alive Cruise 2017

I would think that if anyone had input as to who preforms were... it would be Rory Joe and Kevin

There are other choices they have to consider; Like:  "I'll play but you have to give my X time slot" from the artists.

I'm pretty sure it's a major juggling act

(just wish I could go.. the Rain, the cold.. just to listen to great music for 4 days)

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

Some people just gotta keep their music in those little genre boxes eh? ..... reminds me of Warren Haynes project with the Ashes and Dust Band.

I saw Bruce Hornsby many years ago, he can play just about any style he wants, - excellent entertainer, brilliant musician.

I think the idea was to replace a keyboard player with a keyboard player as so many are crazy about them. As for the schedule, don't write it in ink. Things changed daily for the first two cruises and I expect the same this time. And, most of all, the Blues is a big house with many rooms, so please keep an open mind. You will be more than busy finding the music that makes you the happiest. And, when lots of folks go to one show there's often a better chance to see another in a smaller venue.

I watched the video and it is exactly what I thought it would be...more bluegrass than blues...more country than blues...The cruise is the Keeping The BLUES Alive at Sea cruise not the keeping the bluegrass alive cruise...I saw Warren and Chess Boxer as the Ashes and Dust Band and they were not at all like the video you suggested except Ross Holmes plays the fiddle in both bands...I absolutely loved the Ashes and Dust Band...it is like I said "I didn't fly across the continent and spend 5 grand to see bluegrass bands on the main stage at prime time"....if you are on the cruise you should enjoy this portion a lot but personally I don't think it fits....

please tell me how Bruce reminds you of this again...

Wow?!  Wow.........

It's my money Rocket...this was thrown in AFTER they had my money...if they had advertised Hornsby as a headliner BEFORE they had my money, you would not hear a peep from me....

Re: Keeping the Blues Alive Cruise 2017

I admit, I'm kind of disappointed with the replacement, but hey, there's nothing I can do about it and I'll probably be spending more time seeing others.

Re: Keeping the Blues Alive Cruise 2017

I don't really see the need to get worked up about one band who is only doing one performance on the cruise. There are many other acts to go see if you don't want to see them. Quite frankly I don't regard Honey Island Swamp Band as true blues band either and they are on the pool deck twice. For that matter what is "Blues" at this point. Joe himself has definitely pushed the boundaries of the genre more than most. They needed to quickly fill an opening left by the departure of Gregg Allman. Are there other people I would have chosen, of course, but since I am not involved in any of the process which no doubt is not an easy task to accomplish, then who is picked is not up to me, it's up to J&R. They are the ones that have to go through the trouble of finding someone who will commit to a cruise and work out when they are to appear on that cruise. There are many other things to get worked up about in life that are far more important than one guest slot on a cruise.

anyway i think what pat6put6man is saying is maybe if enough of those going give their input on the facebook page, it may have an influence?

I'm not sure i would have a distinct opinion, but i do understand what they are getting at, and the beef.

ANYWAY I just took a look because I remembered today is the day that is the LAST DAY TO ENTER the sweepstakes
I was hoping to verify i am a loser by tomorrow but according to the rules, I don't they pick or announce before 12-29....
so two more weeks of wondering big_smile

https://keepingthebluesalive.org/ktba-s … eepstakes/

Jane...you got it exactly correct...I don't have a problem with anyone who thinks Hornsby is a good fit...I just think Sixthman should know how a sampling of people feel so they can do any adjustments that they feel are appropriate...I am too old to not voice my opinion and then look back and wonder if I could have had an impact...not that I'm going to have an impact, just saying I'm way past the years that I would stand in the back of the room and take whatever was served and then regret not saying my peace...now I've said my peace and whatever is done with the schedule, I will happily choose where I want to be and enjoy the living hell out of it....peace out...

Re: Keeping the Blues Alive Cruise 2017

- I was making the analogy between Warren’s project and BH’s because they both blend different styles of music together, - I have seen both. Just my opinion here, - music is not and never should be a prescribed exact science, it is an art form that moves and adapts. I agree BH’s project there is more blue grass, and I can read that you are not a fan, - buy it would be impossible to please ALL of the people ALL of the time when it comes to music. I do understand that you are spending a lot of money, and are frustrated but unless you spend a whole lot more and hire the bands yourself I don’t see it changing.

I was trying to be a bit encouraging in my flippant way, - look at glass half full, it will be an experience, go along with the ride, - I am sure that there will be hot of good people there, - and seeing a band is also about the audience and the atmosphere.

Actually Natasha, during Hornsby's performance there are no other bands playing anywhere on the ship...the only other artists who are scheduled that way are Joe and Beth...and I'm not all worked up, simply stating my opinion and wanting everyone to voice their opinions so Sixthman can schedule accordingly...

Re: Keeping the Blues Alive Cruise 2017

Highly unlikely the Sixth Man has anything to do with band schedules.
Wracking the tour boat operations for Joe's cruise is... well..

They run the ship.

Bands and where they play has to be Rory. Joe. Kevin choices.

You could be right Doug but Sixthman asked us to review the schedule and let them know what we thought...so I did....

Re: Keeping the Blues Alive Cruise 2017

Back from my first Keeping the Blues Alive cruise.  What a blast!  It's no wonder the ship sells out as fast as it does.  It's hard to get around to seeing all the bands. That is  if you want to eat or sleep. lol  Amazing talent.   We missed one or two bands even though most of them played multiple shows.  We met some new friends  along with people we already knew.  Such a great  time.  If next year is anything like this year,  I have no doubt it will be amazing and I sure hope to be there.  smile
