Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

"Blues of Desperation", obviously.
I'm liking Metallica's "Hardwired To Self Destruct" more than I thought I would.

A lot of other albums I thought were 2016 (like Scott Henderson's  "Vibe Station" and The Aristocrats' "Tres Caballeros") were actually 2015...

Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

SIMO - Let Love Show The Way
Stevie Nimmo Trio - Sky Won't Fall
Rebecca Downes - Believe
Kaleo - A/B *
Sari Schorr - A Force of Nature
RavenEye - Nova
Joanne Shaw Taylor - Wild
Aynsley Lister - Eyes Wide Open
Whiskey Myers - Mud
Davy Knowles - Three Miles from Avalon

*Not sure if it actually is a 2016 release, but one of the best album's I've bought this year.

Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

I think I have my list
1)Joe's BOD
2)Black Marbles Ep Best Believe It great 70's hard rock blues rock probably what I played most all year.
3)Monster  Truck's Sittin Heavy
Another hard rock classic rock band with great songs.Party soundtrack music.
4)Simo's Let Love Show The Way
Great heavy guitar playing throughout love this album.
5)Henrick Freischader Trio Openess
He returns from hiatus sounding energized. His best since Recorded by MM
6)Santana IV the old band got back together and did a knock up job on this one.My favorite Santana period gets a reprise.
7)Jeff Healy Heal My Soul
Great songs and playing.Top notch.
8)The Record Company Give It Back To You.Stripped down sound based more on the bass line and groove than guitar solos.Great songs to bop to.
9)Rival Sons Hollow Bones
This album got rav reviews all around.I think it's a real good album overall but maybe a step backwards from Great Western Valkarie.Still solid RS with some great rockers.
10)Josh Smith Over My Head
First I had heard of this year before I even knew Joe played on the album. Some great heavy Hendrix style guitar.Real solid all through.
Honorable mention
1)Robin Trower Where Are You Going To
Not the amped up Bridge of Sighs but a slow simmering blues rock with tasty licks and some nice grooves.I really like this album. One of my favorites from him in along time.
2)Steve Nimmo Sky Won't Fall
Everybody is in Love with King King but this Nimmo I like better.
3)Claude Hay Roller Coaster
I had heard a little from him in the past but nothing made we want to get into him. This  this one has great songs with hooks.Made me want to play it over and over.
4)Supersonic Blues Machine
Lance Lopez in a new band and some high quality blues rock
5)Glen Hughes Resonate
Still kind of new in my head but a think a real good album and something a BCC fan should like .
Not that far off a BCC album.
Some tracks have some nice Deep Purple Hammond solos which I really  like.

Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

“Blackstar” by David Bowie, - a couple of brilliant songs that compare with anything that he has done before, - it is weak in places, but given his contribution to music it has to get a mention.

"Blues of Desperation” is a solid album.

“The Getaway” Red Hot Chili Peppers - a return to the form of the John Frusciante days.

“Lady In Gold” Blues Pills, - WOW what a voice!

“take Me To The Alley” Gregory Porter, - wonderful

“Love and Hate” Michael Kiwanuka - smooth

Rereleased, - Gov’t Mule Tel Star Sessions

Both The Temperance Movement and Rival Sons releases have been disappointing so are not on my list.

Breakthrough year, - Rag 'n’ Bone Man

I like the Blues Pills album too.Kind of a groovy psychedelic sound. The lead vocalist is tops as you say.
I think  this album more focused on songs than guitar jams.I did  not have it in my list but real close.

Re: Favorite studio albums 2016

I know it puts me one-over-the-ten, but can I add The Pretenders - Alone to my list? What a combination the two Akron, Ohio natives, Chrissie Hynde & Dan Auerbach make.

I didn't make the ten a "hard" ten so no worries!
