Wish JST would come to Australia.
Would pay good money to see her.
Love her new album
Looking back at this thread, I can’t believe it’s been 3 years since I last saw a Joanne S.T. gig, but there you go. And now she’s jumped from “roadhouses” like The Cluny to prestigious performance rooms like The Sage, and not Sage2, but the BIG room. Now I have seen Joanne a couple of times in the 500seaters, but a move to the 2000 seaters wasn’t one I was going to miss; could she command such a room?
In short, yes, and with effort to spare; the acoustics in The Sage are such that the sound envelopes you and Joanne’s husky, smoky voice was there, perfect clarity and not forced; her cover of Wild Is The Wind was testament to that. Then the sound of her guitar, the Telecaster was spitting audible sparks under her fingers while the Les Paul was like a sonic flame-thrower duelling with the Hammond under Bob Fridzema.
Although good songs as they are, tracks from The Wild for me seemed a little anaemic in comparison to her older material, but Boy, did she and the band stretch out on the other cover in the set, The Hoax’s Bones.. The 90 minutes of the set certainly seemed to fly over, leaving folk hungry for more.
In terms of audience, well, not bad for a Tuesday night; not as full a house as I’d have hoped for Joanne, but more than enough to have packed Sage2 twice over.
Saw her at the Colne blues festival in August, excellent as always. Hope to go to Manchester Bridgewater hall this month also.

Forgot to mention the band; really, really good, then what would you expect from Bob Fridzema; the drummer was Oliver Parry/Barry, but no excuse for missing the mightily dreadlocked Luigi Casanova on bass.

Definitely. The band are an excellent tight unit. Strange seeing such a large plexi screen round the drums at the small Muni stage though. At the Muni all that could be improved was the PA but that could just have been down to the festival/venue.
Well done Joanne landing support slot on the Foreigner next year..

'Tis the season for pre-orders - this time Joanne's new album, Restless Heart due early next February.
Answering some questions I had about it: "Reckless Heart is British singer and guitarist Joanne Shaw Taylor’s 6th studio album and her first on Sony Music/Silvertone. Penning all the songs on the album herself (with the exception of one track co-written with James House), and produced by the highly sought-after Al Sutton (Greta Van Fleet, Kid Rock), ‘Reckless Heart’ was recorded during the summer of 2018 at Rust Belt Studios in Michigan".
So ne excuses - get down to Joanne's web site store.....
Joanne’s Spring 2020 promises to be a little different - according to advance, she’ll be playing Live, Restless Heart in it’s entirety before rounding off with pre-selected old favourites…
