Topic: House of Blues Chicago Show-Nov. 2nd

For anyone going to this show, here's a bit of information:

I just called to make dinner reservations and the restaurant is closed that evening for a private party. If you're planning on dinner before the show, you'll need to go somewhere else. If you're coming from out of town, be aware that you should make reservations. The restaurants in downtown Chicago can be very busy on Friday nights.

The doors open at 7:30PM, but the show does not start until 9PM. This is what I was told when I phoned the HOB's. The website sort of gave me the impression that Joe was coming on at 9PM. The indicated that Joe would probably take the stage at 10:15PM to 10:30PM.

The woman that answered the phone had no idea what "Gold Circle" seating was, but indicated their typical seating was in the balcony sections. If you go to the HOB's website and find Chicago, they have some decent photos of the inside of the music hall that show the balconies and the views from the balconies.

Hi Bill-

Someone @ the HOB Chicago needs to contact ticketmaster and put up a seating chart.  The HOB in Cleveland has a seating chart @ ticketmaster for his show on Nov. 1st.

I'll tell you what Bill. For the extra I paid for "Gold Circle", I had better not be sitting up in some nose bleed section! How in the world are you going to catch my 190 lb. frame if I'm coming at you from 3 floors up? I should have never listened to the "One Who Must Be Obeyed" when she said, "I'm not standing for over 4 hours again for Joe!" Geez, can you say whine, Whine, WHINE!!!!? If push comes to shove, I'll be meeting you up front standing, OK? Hey, thanks for the info on the HOB about dinner. And tomorrow I've got to figure out where to eat. I know you told me before, but Sarah will have a friend along. Is there an Italian or Steak place close by to the Holiday Inn/Chicago Mart or to the HOB that we'd be able to walk to?

Thanks again,

Roy

P.S. Hey one more question. Do you think it's a private party thrown by Joe because they're planning on filming the show that night? You know, figure the band along with Joe's guys that help the band. Maybe his parents and Lea and all of the production crew to do the filming. Hey, it's a possibility!!

Roy,
First off, I'm gonna need to do some calculations for 190 lb mass falling from 40 feet. If I remember correctly Force = Mass x Acceleration, and I think I may be in trouble because my net ain't gonna cut it. Seriously though, I asked about Gold Circle seating because I thought I might spring for a couple seats for my daughter and wife. As it works out, they will provide a single seat if you have a disability, so we'll go that route. I just thought it was odd that she didn't know where "Gold Circle" seating was. I can't imagine you'd be paying extra to be in the nose bleeds.

Maggianos is a great Italian restaurant with HUGE portions of food. It's located at Grand Av and Clark Street and would be maybe a 15 minute walk or a short cab ride from your hotel. The House of Blues is only a 5 block walk from there (1 block east to Dearborn Street and 4 blocks south, just past Kinzie St). I'm sure Maggiano's can point you in the right direction. Gene and Georgettis (Steak House) is within a short walk of your hotel. This is one of the oldest, most well known restaurants in Chicago. The Chicago Chop House is a bit further from your hotel, but closer to the House of Blues. Both have great steaks, but will be a bit pricey. My guess is that all of these restaurants will have websites so you can check out menus and prices.

I never thought to ask about taking pictures...sorry.
Roy, the restaurant there must hold at least 100 -150 people. Based on that number, I don't think that Joe is the one reserving the restaurant. But just in case...Hey Joe! Can I get a table for 6???

Re: House of Blues Chicago Show-Nov. 2nd

When I bought the Gold Circle tickets the description was VERY vague about what they were and why I was paying so much more for them. I hope it means chairs up front but if it's side balcony seating then they better be close. If the GA people have better seating than GC I'll be one unhappy camper.

So the 9 pm start to the show is for Crosby Loggins and Joe starts at 10:30?

I'm just saying.

Re: House of Blues Chicago Show-Nov. 2nd

Ouch....Not good.  I'm coming from Indy (and would have been going back same night).  Can't swing that schedule.  Too late for me.  I think I have some good seats.  I'll be selling those so, sometime in the very near future I'll post details and how you can get in touch with me off the forum if you are interested.  I'll sell 'em cheap.

WharfRat,
I was only repeating what they told me over the phone. You may want to reconfirm those times with HOB's before ditching your tickets. The person I was talking with seemed to know what she was talking about, but she didn't have a clue what "Gold Circle" seating was.

Gold Circle is floor level, directly in front of the stage.  Several HOB locations reference Gold Circle like this one:

So how did anyone get information that there is an opening act?  Last time I saw Joe at HOB, it was just Joe and started around 9pm.

And Bill S: Are you going to finish Walk In My Shadows for Joe like you did last year at the Reau Center?  Hehe.  (You were good!)

Re: House of Blues Chicago Show-Nov. 2nd

Thanks for the info Jon.  I live nearly 5 hours away and have not been back to the HOB website since I bought my tickets.  My wife and I are really looking forward to the show and a nice weekend in Chicago.

Dknight,
Thanks. The highlight of my non-paying career as a Joe fan! Luckily for me, Joe no longer waits for someone to finish Walk in my Shadow for him. My wife swears it's the only time I ever sang perfectly in key (she teaches piano, so she should know). As I said once before, it'll never get better than that, so I'll end my singing career on a high note (no pun intended).

If I had known where these seats were, I would have sprung for tickets immediately. Alas, I guess I'll be standing behind the "real" fans! I hope Joe has been practicing his "long" guitar toss!

I have Gold Circle Row 4, Seats 5 and 6 I think. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Chicago, KC and St. Louis round out my record Bona-year (8 shows). I've got a feeling Chicago is going to be a fun one...

Hey Bill,
I called the HOB this morning for some more info on Joe's show and the gal I talked with told me that the restaurant would be open on Friday. I wonder if the private party cancelled out?

Re: House of Blues Chicago Show-Nov. 2nd

Roy,

I just sent you an e-mail regarding the invite.

I'm going to call them back because I tried making a reservation online and was denied because it said that date was unavailable! Something isn't right.

Re: House of Blues Chicago Show-Nov. 2nd

Follow up.........

I just called their dinner reservation line at 312-923-2018 and the nice lady said that the restaurant was open on Friday night, Nov. 2. She really couldn't tell me why I couldn't make an online reservation. I made a reservation for 2 at 6:00 pm, may change it to 5:00.

The main reason I'm interested in dinner there is for their "Pass The Line" policy. Has anyone - Bill S. perhaps - taken advantage of this policy?
