Topic: NPD: Way Huge Pork Loin

So I was shopping for either a Way Huge Green Rhino or Overrated Special the other day and while the shop I was in didn't have either of those, while chatting to the guy in there, who happened to also be a JB fan, he mentioned that I might like the Pork Loin.

For those who don't know, this is an OD pedal of sorts, but it allows you to retain some clean tone alongside the OD tone. As I've long wanted to run a two amp setup with one clean and one dirty (a la Joe's previous rig), this pedal definitely intrigued me. So we set up the pedal, a Fender amp, only SS, and I grabbed a Tele and a LP off the wall. 10 minutes later I was paying for the pedal as it really sounded pretty much like the sound I've been chasing in my head for a while.

Tonight I had my first chance to play it "in anger" at a local jam night where I hooked it up through the host's Bassman RI and ran my Les Paul with it. Now there are quite a few pots to tweak your tone on this pedal and I think I'm going to have to spend some time with a screwdriver taking the back off to really dial it in as what was a relatively overdriven tone at home was cleaner at stage volumes, but right away I got a really sweet tone with plenty of clarity. When I kicked in my SOV-2 (setup before the PL in the signal chain) for solos I just got such a creamy, thick tone, yet still retaining that clarity such that you could hear every string in a chord and individual notes just leapt out when playing lead. Just awesome - I don't see this pedal leaving my board any time soon, that's for sure!!

Re: NPD: Way Huge Pork Loin

I have a Pork Loin and liked it a lot when I was playing through a Peavey Classic 50/410 but since changing my main amp to a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb Limited Edition I've not been able to get a tone from it that I like. Perhaps I should try tweaking the internal trim pots.

Like you, I also have a MS-SOV but with the Fender amp I stack it with an Okko Diablo Gain+.
