Topic: Selwyn Birchwood

A week or so ago I was reading a little blurb in the Philly Inquirer about an up coming Guitar Shorty show with Selwyn Birchwood opening.  I couldn't remember where I had heard his name before ... then remembered it was probably on this Forum ... Selwyn had won the International Blues Challenge in 2013.

Anyway ... the nice blurb the paper wrote prompted me to order his debut CD, (Don't Call No Ambulance - June '14 release) which I received yesterday.  Glad I purchased it.

Here's the Amazon link ... with the 15 second track samples ... if you're curious:

"I was in Space for less than 2 weeks … and suddenly Jeaniene’s back … half the Band is off the gd wagon … we have comedians opening for us … and the nice kid that ran our website is now a kleptof’nmaniac.  Boy ... did you guys miss me!!"  Phil Valentine - Road Manager - Staton House Band

JBLP#251 (unaged) ... thank you Ron.

Pretty sure he has a previous release "Fl Boy'  unless I am completely losing it.  2011 or 2012.  Ill check for sure when I get home.

Re: Selwyn Birchwood

Worked with him at The Northwoods Blues Fest, Great show and a really nice guy.

Thanks for the heads up ... yes ... according to Wiki:

2011: FL Boy
2013: Road Worn
2014: Don't Call No Ambulance

(I guess since his latest is the first release since signing with Alligator Records  ... putting some push behind it ... it's being touted as his label debut.)  My mistake. Thanks again.  (Gonna have to put them on my "look for them" llst.)

Re: Selwyn Birchwood

Selwyn Birchwood was at the Western Maryland Blues Festival. Saw him for the first time on Joe's cruise this February. Was nice to see him again. Really like his song "Hoodoo Stew". It's fun and funky and he did a pretty spot on impersonation of Howlin Wolf during it. He sounded just like the video clip of Howlin' talking about what the blues is that was on Joe's Muddy Wolf DVD.
