Topic: ready to learn Joe's acoustic songs

Recently I (finally) purchased a Takamine EAN16c acoustic/electric guitar.  My search for a good acoustic at a price point that would not break the bank was truly exhausting.  I acquired an acoustic guitar with one goal in mind, learn to play some of Joe's amazing acoustic tunes.  I have spent my entire guitar playing history with electric guitars.  After watching some of Joe's acoustic performances I immediately knew learning to play along with some of these tracks is something that could be extremely fun and rewarding.

Playing guitar is such an amazing way of relieving many stresses we face in life.  I can't think of a better way to spend some free time than playing some of Joe's music.  As of yet I have not decided which song I will initially "tackle".  Right now I am becoming familiar with the feeling of playing an acoustic.  This will aid in the task of more quickly/easily playing along with Joe's CDs/DVDs.

Learning to play any new songs has always been so rewarding.  Being bipolar, learning new material is fantastically therapeutic.  Any "technique" I can utilize to aid in improving my quality of life is much appreciated.  Improving MY quality of life directly assists in improving the life of the people I most love, my wife and two sons.

Thanks, Ron.  It is the first time I have played a quality acoustic guitar.  My son has an old Washburn that I gave him years ago, but this Takamine is on another level.  That beautiful tone makes playing the guitar a lot more fun.

Re: ready to learn Joe's acoustic songs

I would like to learn some of the songs he plays live on his DVD concerts.  Even if I don't nail them note for note it would still be nice to get close enough, and better yet, capture much of the vibe coming out of his guitar/hands.  With Joe's playing I don't worry myself with perfect transcriptions of what he's playing.  If I can approximate it but manage to get CLOSE to his tone then I'm a happy camper.
