I really enjoy seeing these vids of vintage cars. The look and the sound are just stupendous to my way of thinking. Hope some of you enjoy these as much as I do.
My dad's dream car was a Maserati. The closest he ever got was a red convertable Chevy Corvair. I remember the day when that car was wrecked. I was with dad when we got broadsided by a drunk who ran a stop sign. Luckily no one was hurt more than two black eyes and a broken nose I got when the steel dashboard smacked me in the face. The Corvair was totaled. Dad was heartbroken.

I'd love to have a '64 turbo Monza Spyder. I've always dug these cars. Great classic!

However followed the various links and ended up here. Remember this clip from the original broadcast. Actually saw the XJ15's in action that year. They were a mighty handful.
If you watch the last couple of minutes Tiff Needell gives it some serious welly and commentates as he does so. It is breathtaking stuff. What a beast it is. High ride height, minimal downforce, 7 litre V12.......what a sound. Bought for an investment at 500k. If they still have it then it paid off.............

I've had the good fortune to have a ride in a very famous car on a public roadway. My younger son was a restoration specialist for a very high end motor car company here that specialized in collector cars. One Saturday afternoon he gave me a call and said come check it out, I just finished it. He gave me a ride up the empty roadway and ran through the gears. INSANE!!

A year later, he got us an invite to a "gentleman's race day" at Fontana where he was wrench for a collector on another car he'd gone through. I got to sit in this one. Red, Ferrari, Schumi's car. Those were awesome Rick! The level of engineering that goes into those cars is mind boggling. Here are 2 vids of the same $38 million (that's obscene money!) Ferrari GTO ripping up an Oregon road. Pure ear porn!

Very cool Guido. The son told me that Mazda was putting out about 900hp in race trim. I had to squeeze in alongside the driver's seat for the ride. The visceral feeling and sound of the acceleration was beyond belief. 1st and 2nd gears and we were doing about 120 in less than 12 seconds.
It takes three mechanics to start that F1 v10. One lifts the car so the drive wheels are not on the ground, one inserts the cranking motor into the drive receptor and begins cranking with the car in gear. The third monitors engine and gearbox oil pressures until they come up to operation levels, then engages the ignition system. It is an immensely complicated piece of engineering. Getting an engine to perform and hold together for a race while turning 20K revs is mind boggling. Perhaps the pinnacle of naturally aspirated engine design. Turbos have made design much easier since the revs are way lower.

If you like old F1 circa '70's F1, then this might be for you!
I found some footage of the Historic F1 race at Monaco 2016. It is all 'in car' from what look likes an old 'Tea Tray' front wing March 721 or something of that ilk.
Lot of the footage is just sitting around with nothing happening so I suggest go straight to 46 minutes when he starts the warm up lap. You get a nice idea of a 3.0 litre DFV burbling around Monaco. Then, at about 48,50 the red lights go out and the full savagery of the thing kicks in.
Whoever is driving isn't a top gun but it is still a wonderful reminder of how it was. Great footage. Interesting moment after a couple lapes when someone forces him to miss the chicane only to see the offender outbrake himself a couple of corners later!
