Topic: Wisconsin Gigs - Green Bay (May 12) and Madison (May 13)

I was lucky enough to attend both of Joe’s Wisconsin shows – Thursday in Green Bay and Friday in Madison. It was nice to do a little road trip around my home state for once instead of having to battle air travel.

I thought the Green Bay show was terrific. The Weidner Center at UW-Green Bay was a lovely theater. Best thing about it – bouncy seats which were great for chair dancing! We were in the second row on the left side so we had a great view.

With all the chatter about Michael Rhodes I had been wondering how much better he could be than Carmine. Well, just... WOW! What I liked about him simply was his sound, but he also just seemed to be doing more with it. I’m not sure how to properly articulate. And, of course, Anton is a fantastic addition. Tal is great but I sometimes found him overwhelming. Reece is a joy to listen to and the horn section is not only easy on the ears but fun to watch. I love that the horns are still in the lineup and hope it stays that way. I did not miss the percussion from last year. That often felt like too much to me. And then there’s our man Joe. I don’t understand how he can continue to get better and better. The playing and singing are just phenomenal! And collectively, I think this is by far my favorite lineup of musicians. I left that show thinking it was one of the best I had seen. Had a chance to say “hi” to Phil and Natasha. Thanks for the intro with Paulie!

On to Madison we went. We were chilling on the couch in the lobby before the show when Paulie literally landed on us for a chat. He is a special kind of person – so warm and kind and funny. I feel as if I’ve known him for years. For this show we were seated in the 4th row on the left side again. No bouncy chairs, though. Only hard folding chairs. Same set list as the night before but this was no repeat of the previous night. Just when you think Joe can’t possibly give you anymore, BAM, he turns it up another notch. Absolutely a crazy, awesome performance. The vocals, the solos, the jams – it was all off the charts! The crowd was pretty amped up, too. The roaring was some of the loudest I’ve heard at a Joe concert. And even though they were definitely having a blast, I didn’t notice anybody yelling out during the solos. So if I thought Thursday night was one of the best, then I’m not sure how to categorize Friday night. Best ever? Maybe. But I’m pretty sure he will surpass that next time around.

So Joe, if you’re reading this, the screaming girl in the #4 jersey from Thursday night thanks you so much for giving her, and all the fans, this gift of your music. I’ve been to 16 shows now since I started in 2011 and the memories are mostly the best I have… of anything!

My wife and I were at the Madison concert and it was absolutely fantastic.  We had seats in the 6th row, just left of center, and he once again blew us away.  I would still have to rank our first concert and my favorite because that was the concert that introduced us to him but this ranks a very close second.  Great, great show.

I am a HUGE fan of Joe playing his Flying V, it sounded great!!

Re: Wisconsin Gigs - Green Bay (May 12) and Madison (May 13)

Just got back this evening from the shows in Wisconsin. And as Barbie said the Green Bay one was great, but the one in Madison was absolutely killer! Best one we've seen yet of this tour. The energy in Madison was so high. It was a small venue, probably only holds about 1800 and the stage was small so Joe and the guys were so much farther forward than at Green Bay, which to me makes a world of difference. The crowd was really into it at Madison, noticed a number of younger people. Lots of standing ovations and cheering, but no obnoxious behavior. The crowd at Green Bay seemed older and they didn't even stand for the encore even after Joe told them to. At Green Bay we had seats on the side in a box. It was a cool view of the stage, the only issue was the speakers hung down as they always do and when Joe went over to the left side and was back by the horns, I couldn't see his head. It was cool being able to view the crowd reacting to the shows and I captured some of that on the last few songs of the night. In Madison, we saw the show with our friends Lee and Renee and it was such a blast being there with them. We got to say a quick hello to Joe when he arrived at the venue which was such a treat. We had front row balcony seats for the show, but we noticed there were two empty seats in the first row right in the center. Well, Renee and I couldn't pass those up, so we went down and sat in those. Fulfilling our duty as "Official Bonamassa Seat Fillers". Wouldn't want Joe to look down at the front row and see empty chairs. What a bummer that would be, so we did our civic duty, lol smile Renee and I had such a blast there. It was so great having Joe's microphone set up close to the front of the stage. Could actually see his eyes behind those sunglasses. And when he was going off on his solos, you could just see his face trembling. And man was he going off on song after song!! He was just drenched in sweat. Before we left for these shows I was feeling like why are we doing these. Why are we going through all the hassle of flying out again to the middle of the country? We had just been to California and the practical side of me was thinking we were being crazy with the whole traveling all the time, but then we got that show last night and got to see it with two of our best friends and all I could think of is this is why we do this. This is what makes us the most happy. So, once again, thank you Joe for bringing such joy and happiness into our lives.

It was great seeing you again Barbie and Paulie is a sweetheart isn't he? One of my favorite people smile

Here are a few more from Madison. Since I am home and have more time I've been overlaying Phil's audio on top of mine for a fuller sound. Really happy with the way they are turning out because they are more true to life.
