Topic: The dilemma - BB Pro vs 498R/T

Hey folks,

I am after a "cheap" Les Paul. Two models I do consider:
Tribute 50s 2016 HB
Faded T Studio WC 2016

While I love Honey Burst, I fear I might dislike the 498...

I briefly had the chance to play both guitars, but had no buying intention at that time, so I forget about the PU sounds.

Unfortunately, I have no shops close where I could check both models...could you give me some input of you experiences (best case hands on).

I prefer classic, bluesy sound, am not too much into heavier sounds.

Thanks...

Re: The dilemma - BB Pro vs 498R/T

The ceramic Gibson pickups in my opinion are great for classic rock into hard rock area. I find that they do sound good clean but only when the volume knob is on the guitar is fully open. I prefer the BB pickups and above those the 57 Classics. If you need a bit more juice the 57+ may be a good choice. Just my experience, some may disagree.

Re: The dilemma - BB Pro vs 498R/T

When I was LP shopping earlier this year I tried a goldtop 50s Tribute. It was nice, definitely more bluesy than rocky (though I was trying it through a Blues Deluxe so not a rocky amp either).

I'd say it's a good choice if that's your budget - easy enough to upgrade the pups later if you decide you want to anyway.

The goldtop would make a good base for a Bona-tribute as well with its darkback!!
