Re: What's your boost?

Have checked the JHS Morning Glory, and I think this pedal is exactly what I am looking for in a boost. Thanks for all your input, it made me watch tons of YouTube vids ;-)))

I have a Carl Martin compressor as well, and while I don't use it as a boost it certainly can do that.  It's a pretty versatile pedal, I should probably explore the gain aspect more...

Re: What's your boost?

I'm on the waiting list for a King of Tone... and my number should be up soon.

I'm currently using the Klon klone Mythical Overdrive for a boost.

Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: What's your boost?

I will also say great things about the Bad Bob! I own an original made by Robbie Wallace as well as an Anaolgman KOT. I think i prefer the Bad Bob as far as boost goes. Another thing though, sometimes i like to use my Zendrive as a boost, maxing the lever and using the gain knob as a volume. I can get a nice sound at times like that.

Xotic EP Booster

Re: What's your boost?

After my recent GAS attack, I am now running a dual OD pedal setup with a Providence SOV-2 (couldn't stretch to the Free The Tone version and more than happy with this one anyway) and a Budda Zenman.

The Zenman has a built in clean boost which you can use independently of the OD side of the pedal - this is now my clean boost!!

Guitars: Fender American Original 60s Strat, Fender American Vintage 52 Tele, Gibson Les Paul Traditional
FX: Various including - Ceriatone Centura, Fire Custom Shop Carpe Diem
Amp: Fender ML212 Deville + 212 extention cabinet

You use the SOV to boost, correct? What's your setting for the SOV?

Compressors are totally new ground for me - zero experience with them.

Me too. However I set the comp low and push the gain a bit to get boost and it breaks up the front end in a really sweet way. I tend to have it on all the time with cleanish tones and off with any heavier gain. Technically I guess I'm not using it as a solo boost but it would work well using it that way.

Re: What's your boost?

I have my guitar volume about 7, so kick that up full when needed. In terms of boosting via my right foot...

Re: What's your boost?

I had a morning glory and didn't care for it. It sounds fine but I felt like it highlighted certain frequencies and narrowed my guitars tone. Maybe all pedals do that... It just annoyed me.

I just got a Analogman prince of tone and it's a fantastic pedal. So many good tonal options it's probably worth it to just buy two rather than wait for the King of Tone. You would save money.

As far as boosts go my Paul Cochrane Tim pedal is an amazing boost. I can't believe more people don't sing its praises. I use it to boost any main overdrive and there isn't a pedal this thing doesn't make sound better. It adds fullness, clarity, gain if needed. It's worth every penny. They don't make them anymore you'd have to get a Timmy which I haven't tried. But the Tim pedal is amazing.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, I hadn't seen your question!!

No, I'm using the SOV2 as my OD and the clean boost side of the Zenman as the boost....or I was....

Since that post I have added 2 Way Huge pedals to my board. So now I have a Pork Loin which is pretty much always on and use either the SOV2 or an Overrated Special to boost that for solos depending on the flavour I want (SOV2 being a tad warmer and leas gainy).

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: What's your boost?

I have 3 pedals that all add something a little bit different.
First is the Mesa Tone Burst. I run the volume on full and the gain just above minimum. Bass rolled off and treble at noon. Gives a nice lift in the signal and brightens the tone. Well suited for solo's.
Another pedal is the Way Huge Overrated Special. Volume and gain both at noon. 500hz at 3 o'clock and tone at 9 o'clock. This darkens the tone nicely, adds that Les Paul growl and suits rolling guitar volume back and playing with fingers.
The last boost I use but not so much is the MXR JB FET Drive. All controls around noon, minimal adjustment depending on the day...! Has a similar tone to the Overrated Special, maybe a bit smoother.
I'm such a pedal junkie, always on the lookout...lol

Re: What's your boost?

^Sounds interesting. I've always fancied the FET, but never really tried it. After my long search I've ended up with the Vemuram Jan Ray and this thing  banned everything else from my board. Nowadays I do not even have a board anymore. Everything is gone to hibernation -  except of the Jan Ray.

The Jan Ray is a pedal I want to try, really like the YouTube reviews.
