Topic: Songs played live from studio albums

With the new release of Blues of Desperation, I was looking back at other releases and found it interesting the number of songs played live off of certain albums.
So far from "Blue Of Desperation" Joe has already played 7 of those songs live:
"This Train" - acoustic and electric
"Mountain Climbing" - electric
"Drive" - acoustic
"No Good Place For The Lonely" - electric
"Blues of Desperation" - electric
"The Valley Runs Low" - acoustic
"Livin' Easy" - acoustic

From "Different Shades of Blue" he did all but one live:
"Hey Baby" - electric
"Oh Beautiful" - electric
"Love Ain't A Love Song" - electric
"Living On The Moon" - electric
"Never Give All Your Heart" - electric
"I Gave Up Everything 'Cept The Blues" - electric
"Different Shades of Blue" - acoustic
"Get Back My Tomorrow" - acoustic
"Trouble Town" - electric & acoustic
"So What Would I Do" - electric

On "Driving Towards The Daylight" he has played 5 of them live:
"Dislocated Boy" - electric & acoustic
"Stones In My Passway" - acoustic
"Driving Towards the Daylight" electric & acoustic
"Who's Been Talking" - electric
"I Got All You Need" - electric

Off of "Dustbowl" 4 also:
"Slow Train" - electric & acoustic
"Dust Bowl" - electric & acoustic
"Black Lung Heartache" - acoustic
"You Better Watch Yourself" - electric

"Black Rock" had a lot done live. All of them except for "Night Life and "Baby You Gotta Change Your Mind"

And so on...

I just find it kind of cool that the two most recent albums have so many songs played live. I often wonder how songs for the shows get picked. If certain ones lend themselves better to the live performance more so than others or if Joe just likes some better than others and therefore wants to play them. No doubt the fact that he has played both acoustic and electric shows in recent years has increased the chances of a song fitting in be it in one form or another.  Looking forward to seeing some others done live off the new album and any other album as well.

Re: Songs played live from studio albums

Some interesting stats on the set lists.
I am sure there is a process to pick the songs. If I had to guess its part what seems like what would be the most popular songs and also mixing up the type of songs for variety.
It could be possible that rehearsals might leave some songs out due to how they sound on stage.
There is also the times when a cover not on any album is played live. That's a nice treat for hearing something different. The downside is when you miss an original you really wanted to hear and wonder if it would have been played if they didn't do a cover song. This goes for any band.

Out of "Driving Towards The Daylight", I Got All You Need was played too, it's on the Blues Night Tour de Force DVD.

Surprising to find out "Heartbreak Follows Wherever I Go" is the only song not played from DSOB, considering it's probably one of my favorites from that album.

I'm broke, motherf**ker!

Thanks, I'll add that in. I think I've only watched that DVD once so forgot it was played at that show.

I've been wondering the same thing for awhile. I was listening to Baby You Gotta Change Your Mind today and I wish he had included that in the acoustic set as this is a great song. I am happy with anything he plays live as it is awesome.
