Be grateful for the artists that allow people to video and tape their performances, but in Robben's case it is not allowed, yet people don't respect that and wonder why they get treated rudely. I've seen him go off on people at his shows as well as a sound board guy that was clueless about what he was doing. It pisses me off too since it ruins the experience for myself and the others who came to enjoy the music and not wave video and audio gear around in the air. I've seen Mark Knopfler and Stephen Stills react to people in the same manner as well. Remember it's the artists show, not yours.

Sorry J Dawg, couldn't disagree more. Some of these guys forget they are entertainers. Take away the audience and they are like the rest of us playing in their bedrooms. I remember David Crosby (you mentioned Stephen Stills... CSN one of the most arrogant bands I have ever known) giving the audience a lecture on how coughing was a controllable condition so we should shut the hell up while he played his new song. Needless to say the instant he started someone let out a beauty of a cough and Crosby walked off the stage. Good riddance. We pay serious cash to see these artists and if they feel like 'cranky primadonnas' they should stay home. A crowd is a crowd and the minute these 'artists' feel they should lecture a few thousand people on how they can behave, maybe it's time to hang it up.

I can see it from both perspectives. I can totally understand how a musician wouldn't want cameras flashing and people holding their phones in the air to get photos and videos. I imagine it's incredibly distracting when you're trying to perform. Not to mention the loud talking that frequently happens. I also don't feel people are entitled to a chat and photo op afterwards with the artist or a setlist. There is nothing on the ticket that says you are owed this. Yet many feel they are owed these things. I try to be very discreet when filming because I don't want to be a distraction to others. And the main reason I bother to do it at all is because I know there are others who were either at the show that would like to relive it or there are those that couldn't be there. At Robben's show this weekend there were 3 guys in their teens, early 20's. They were players who drove 5 hours from West Virginia to see this show because they absolutely love his music. I posted a video from the show on Robben's facebook page and one of the guys saw it and was so thrilled because now he can watch it and learn from it. That's what it's all about. Plus Robben's facebook page has shared a video of mine in the past. So....

Like most things nothing is black and white.Fine line with all this stuff
seems like there is always a guy in Chicago shouting love You Joe every  time there is a quiet section of playing.Even Joe has had to comment to get the guy to stop shouting.But he does do it in a way that I think shows some respect for someone who does not really deserve it.
It's pretty much standard these days for people holding up the iPhone for videoing or pics.I do take a few  pics myself but try not to hold anything high.
I give kudos for musicians that can manage these types of things with humor and hopefully don't have to get too cranky or storm off the stage.

I agree Natasha and am glad you got most of the show. I have some of his work from a few years back I stealthed in at the Coach House with Renegade Creation - Robben Ford,  Micheal Landau, Jimmy Haslip and Gary Novak. Wow, what a band that was! I know what you mean about the players. That is why I always try to get close ups of the fingering for them to learn from.

Rick, you've been around long enough to know my stance on taping, even though you captured Joe sittin' next to me one night. Didn't they bust you at that one? The old timers know I'm there for the music and good times. That's why Shreddy and I had so many good times over this guy JB.

Robben is a little prima donna, but he's  good Blues guitarist...Walter Trout, however, is a  great Blues guitarist and an incredibly warm friendly guy...It counts for a lot in my book.

If I pay money to support an Artist he should be grateful not be a complete **** giving off a sense of you owe me. He needs to remember where his $$$ come from. I will never support an artist who thinks he is better then his fans. His fans got him where he is and can easily take him down.

A friend of mine went to see him a few years ago and said he spent most of the show with is back to the crowd.

BS, he doesn't do that, you can watch Natasha's vid and get a sense. He does connect with the audience in his own way. I have to agree with J Dawg on this one, it's their show and all your ticket promises is that you are renting a seat. I remember a Bonnie Raitt show way back, outdoor ampitheatre, and about two songs in she became infuriated with billowing cigarette smoke in the front rows and shut it down to chastise the crowd. Fair enough, put the damn cigs out and let her do her thing.

When we were in California for Joe's shows Robben was playing on in Pasadena on one of the days off. He has a new band which features a young woman named Ryan Madora on Bass and a rhythm guitarist Casey Wasner. Robben seems really happy playing with these people, especially the bass player. She is quite good and he let her take quite a few solos. I filmed most of the show. There were a number of new songs I hadn't heard him do before.
