Topic: Robben Ford

Well.. Here I am celebrating Joe again lol So many artists I see, tend to only talk about themselves.. Whereas Joe is always (in a way) giving thanks to his inspirations! And here-in lies the beauty of his modesty.. If it wasn't for Joe, I wouldn't have heard of half the players I know today! (and of course with this forum, I've been introduced to countless amazing artists).. One such name, was Robben Ford - THANK YOU JOE! For a while now, I've been really getting into Robben's playing, and I see the inspiration he's had on Joe, and I can see why he loves him so much! What an incredible player! Definitely one of my top faves now smile
So here's thanks to Joe, for introducing many of us (I'm sure I'm not the only one here! lol) to the music that inspired you, and so many great musicians! (Got that out my system lol I've been meaning to show my strong interest in Robben wink )

Rus

P.s - Great news! Exams are over for this year at least smile So expect to see me on here more from now smile Now let's hope they turn out okay lol Sadly, yesterday's driving test was not in fact a pass hmm A silly mistake, but a serious fault none-the-less...

Check out this collaboration Robben Ford, Michael Landau, Jimmy Haslip, Gary Novak. One of my favorite albums other than Joe's I have picked up this year.

Re: Robben Ford

I've been a fan for a long time Rus, Robben is one of the best around and deserves plenty of attention, especially with his infusion of jazz chording and progressions in his blues. You should look up his Rockpalast DVD with his trio, equally as strong as Joe's in Robben's own way. He's a joy to see live, always a big smile on his face. He's done collaborations with a heap of greats too. Check this with Larry Carleton, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f64XZRRs0jA A ton of Dumbles! Enjoy the tour of discovery, I get to enjoy the new group shortly, there's a boatload of talent coming to town!

Re: Robben Ford

The Forum has steered me onto numerous artists like Davy Knowles, Lance Lopez, The Buddhaheads, Monty Montgomery, and most recently Ana Popovic. I've been a fan of Robben's for years and found about him(this goes in the believe it or not file) from my ex Mother-in-law who turned me onto Talk To Your Daughter, which we both got a chuckle outta the title. Rus, you gotta see Robben live, but be forewarned, If he spots you taping you'll turn his smile upside down and wish you'd never heard of him....word!

Ryan McGarvey, Nick Moss, Lance Lopez....all artists I found thru this site....One of the great unexpected benefits of being a Bonamassa forum member is that there are a whole lotta people with pretty good taste, huh?

we do have fairly good taste when it comes to other artists. When I saw Robben he was so far under the radar, did not know him at all. He was with Tom Scott's LA Express and they backed Joni Mitchell on tour. sure I was 3 sheets afloating but remember his guitar work with Joni's acoustic sounded amazing. That was also Max Bennet on bass, not shabby either. as Jim stated, the Renegade Creation is excellent and the more I listen the better it sounds.

look at RickB coming up on 5K posts, what is that like BONAGOLD?

Tres

I think Bonaddicted is closer to the truth Tres. lol Another few years and I might catch Jane.

I think I can help with that smile I agree Josh is one of my new favorite guitarists. And he's such a nice guy.

Re: Robben Ford

Went to see Robben Ford last night and utilized my super stealth ninja video skills to capture his whole set minus the encore. They couldn't get the lights back on during the encore so there was no point in filming in darkness. The rest of the show had very good lighting and sound. Pretty short set. Barely an hour 20 minutes. Nice to see some young guys in the audience. They drove 5 hours to see the show felt bad for them that he didn't play longer. They were so excited to see him.

I went to NH to see him last year, and it was very short then too. 1 set, just over an hour.

Re: Robben Ford

I will not see Robbin again. Great great guitar player but he has no respect for his fans. He gave my friend Jay the cold shoulder. I was suppose to go but could not I am glade i did not. I will never see him again. You are lucky Natasha he did not catch you he would of asked you to leave
