Topic: Let's launch Austin Young

Hi all
I am posting this only to ask you all to support this new young Guitar player his name is Austin Young. Check him out on his Facebook page. I donated one of my JB aged gold tops to Joe's Keep the Blues Alive foundation last November. I asked Joe to help find a deserving young player that had the chops and the character that would take this gift and go on to make great music and inspire others to keep this music that I love going forward. We only ask that someday that Austin pay forward. I would like to thank Joe for his hospitality for letting me be a part of this and invite me to rehearsal. Then I nearly had a heart attack when he handed me Skinner to noodle on. I would also like to thank my new friend John Catt of Blue Star connection for helping us find Austin. I am truely humbled by the work he does with young kids with life threatening illnesses to give them a boost by the gift of instruments. He is truely one of a kind.
So please I ask all my fellow Bonamassa faithful to support Austin by going to Amazon and purchase his cd "Blue as can Be" if you can purchase multiple copy's and give to your friends lets all get mobilized to help this young man push ahead. I know after meeting Austin and his mom Krisanne he is the real deal so humble but so so talented. This is our chance to show the big record companies how we the fans make the decisions not them. Also check out the Blue Star connection the work that John Catt does for these young kids is unbelievable he is truely one of my hero's.
For me it is all about the music and how it can save the soul.
Thanks again Joe what can I say but only thanks
Cheers Ron

Wow!  You selected the right word!  Thanks for posting the video link.

Looks like KTBA, Joe and Ron found their man for that JBLP ... it's gonna be smokin'

(Kudos to you once again Ron!)

JBLP#251 (unaged) ... thank you Ron.

Re: Let's launch Austin Young

Here is a link I found to one of the interractions I have witnessed with Austin and Ronnie Baker Brooks.  This is from the 2013 Blues From the Top Festival in Winter Park, Colorado.  Ronnie calls Austin up on stage and hands him his guitar around the 3:00 minute mark of the video.  Hope you all enjoy.

Re: Let's launch Austin Young

One of the highlights of the 2016 KTBA cruise for me was getting to watch Austin Young (& Band) perform 2 sets, and getting to watch Ron (cindyron) look on both times beaming with pride.

Although I get very drawn in while watching live music (don't we all?), I rarely get overwhelmed, but that's exactly what happened during their first set.  I don't even remember the song, but Austin and his other guitarist (Michaela Rae) were face to face exchanging very intense solos.  I didn't realize how much it was effecting me until I felt the tears roll down my cheeks.  I had a hard time catching my breath for a minute too.

All 4 band members are only 20 years old, but they play so far beyond their years it's hard to describe.  Austin's ability to work the crowd and get them fired up also defies his age.  Their first set generated so much buzz and word of mouth that the second set was far more heavily attended, and was in a better venue as well.  These guys just need more exposure and they're going to be big.  I have the benefit of being local to the band, and I let them know my goal is to make them sick of seeing me over the coming months and years.  I was a fan before, and am now a huge fan.

On a side note:  Natasha tried to make it to his second set to shoot a video, but a last minute schedule change caused a conflict for her.  I have a new appreciation for what she does for our community after watching her and Phil scramble from set to set, usually with a handful of batteries, and a determination to find the perfect spot.  It's a labor of love, but I got to see first hand, how much labor it really is.  Natasha, I said it to you on the ship and I'll say it again here... Thank you so much for your videos.  I've spent so many hours of my life watching them, and can't tell you how much joy it brings me.  It's obvious how much Joe, and Davy, et al.. appreciate the exposure you give them as well.  You're the best.

Mike

Re: Let's launch Austin Young

I made it over to the Atrium for the last two songs fully prepared to give Austin a pass for his age but instead I saw a seasoned pro with a great band. So sorry to not of seen the whole show. They were the real deal and Austin has a voice and maturity beyond his years. I new fan here Ron.

Re: Let's launch Austin Young

Yup they brought it and gave it up for the crowd. It was good to see him play live and speak to his mom. It is a bummer Natasha did not get to film Austin. It would have helped him tremendously. Who knows maybe they will return next year.
Also nice to meet you mikewig.
Jim l wish I had known you were on the cruise I would have loved to have chatted. Maybe next year
Cheers Ron

Re: Let's launch Austin Young

I was going to see Austin Young play tomorrow night (3/26) in Evergreen, CO but just found out the show has been cancelled due to the passing of his father.  I just saw Tim watching Austin 2 weeks ago at a show and he looked so young and vital that I'm in shock.

Please keep Austin & his family in your thoughts and prayers.  Ron or Joe, if you see this it might be an opportune time to reach out to Austin as I'm sure he's struggling with the loss.  I know he thinks the world of both of you.

Re: Let's launch Austin Young

Surfing YouTube this a.m. for some Austin Young footage and stumbled upon a vid with his dad playing drums. How sad that his father has passed away. May he rest in peace.

I like what I'm hearing from this kid. I usually don't pay much attention to the youngsters but I could easily become an A.Y. fan! Thanks for the heads up, Forum!

LIVE MUSIC IS BEST

Thanks Mike, just noticed your comments and I really appreciate what you said. Most people have no idea how much goes into the whole thing and you saw only the filming side of it. There are also the hours spent figuring out song titles, entering all the info and time spent uploading. I am glad so many appreciate it and that's one of the reasons I'm motivated to do it. Wish I could have seen Austin. I had met both him and his mother at the Beaver Creek and Red Rocks Muddy Wolf shows and they are both wonderful people. Unfortunately with the cruise, the schedule makes it very difficult to see everything you want to see. Really hope to see him sometime in the future and given what people say about him, I am sure I will at some point for he looks like a rising star. How awful to hear of his father's passing. He is far too young to lose his Dad. My heart goes out to him.

Re: Let's launch Austin Young

I was very saddened to hear of Tim's passing.  I got to know Tim over the years following Austin and he was always very friendly and gracious.  Enjoyed talking with him on many occasions.  Saw him play drums for Austin many times in the early days.  Thoughts and prayers are with Austin and his family.

Re: Let's launch Austin Young

I was so sad when I heard of Austin's dad passing. I never met his dad but from what i have read I can see where Austin got his manners and positive outlook. I have had the pleasure to meet his mom Krisanna what a wonderful role model. Please all pray for him his mother and siblings. The minute I found out I contacted Joe and he asked me to send his condolences since he was in Europe at the time. which I have. I look forward to see Austin and his band at Keep the Blues Alive cruise 2017.
Be strong my young friend think of all the wonderful times you had with your dad and take the positive emotion and put it to music. You know that I believe in the healing power of music all one needs to do is let it in.
Your friend Ron
