Topic: Guitar from Arthur's Music Store arrived today :-)

A week or so ago I talked about while watching a video of JB and Norm giving a discussion about guitars Joe briefly talked about Arthur's Music Store being the oldest family owned music store in the country.  Immediately I knew I should give them a call and see if there was anything I could buy from them to help support their store.  Knowing my budget wasn't necessarily on the high side I figured my phone call would result in me purchasing possibly a t-shirt with the store's name, maybe a set of guitar strings, a guitar strap, etc.
During my conversation with a very friendly sales associate I found out they actually had a Japanese built late 80s or early 90s Ibanez RG560.  The amazing part was the price, $225.  It was all original and in rather nice condition.  Sure, it had a few bumps and bruises but I didn't care.  These guitars are known for taking a beating and still playing great.  There was no giving it a second thought, bought it on the spot.  An even further surprise was that they agreed to install brand new strings of my choice and do a complete set-up.  With it having a floating bridge it's nice knowing someone else was going to be taking the time to get that thing in tune, bridge perfectly aligned, and intonated.
Today my "new" Ibanez RG560 arrived and WOW, I could not be happier.  During the days prior to it getting here I figured I'd replace the bridge humbucker with a Duncan JB and possibly the two single coils also with Seymour Duncans...lil' JB and lil' 59.  Well, that idea is out the window.  The guitar sounds and plays AMAZING.  Sure, replacing the original pickups might yield a little better tone.  But, these are darn good AND I decided to follow what Joe has said so many times, tone comes from the fingers/hands.  So, I am set on making these pickups sound just as good as any expensive set of pickups.  With the guitar being set-up perfectly every note on it sings.
I have to thank Joe B. for the heads up about Arthur's Music Store and, of course, the fine people at Arthur's for giving me such a great deal on a remarkable guitar.  Well, that's my story for today.  Oh, I found out about the guitar because I ASKED if they by chance they had anything within my humble budget.  We never know what is possible if we fail to simply ask.  The worst that can happen is you're told "no".  Big deal.  In this case I was told "yes" and for that I am grateful.

Happy NGD! I'm happy to hear that you'll be leaving it as is, I'm not really into alterations unless absolutely necessary.

As you might notice from my avatar, I am a fan of Ibanez guitars and I forever regret the day I parted with my Jem777 :-(

Thank you my friends. Today I called Arthur's to let them know how happy I have been with the entire process. But, to bring me back down from the high of getting this Ibanez my amp decided to start to give out on me. It's a Line 6 AX212. This amp was the first all-in-one amp released by Line 6. I will put it up against any modeling amp built since.
I don't care much how accurately it recreates a particular amp. Does it sound good is all I consider. This Line 6 AX212 through my Marshall 4x12 cab...heaven.
I will not impugn other modeling amps that have come along over the past several years. In fact, there are some very good ones. But, for me it was always about my ax212. I wish I knew how to fix it. What happens is the volume will drop off considerably while playing then eventually completely come back. I have tried different cables with different guitars to isolate the problem to the amp and not simply a cable or anything else. I plug directly into the front so nothing touches the signal between my guitar and the amp other than a guitar cable. Even though I have high end guitar cables (ah, it was nice back when I was still able to work) I still went through the process of switching them. Yup, it's the amp.
Great, get a guitar then my amp begins to die. All I can do is laugh it off. Besides, last night my wife of over 25 years informed me she no longer is able to be married to someone who is bipolar. I guess that "in sickness and in health" part was merely part of the ceremony. I guess it shows that the person you thought was your best friend isn't always the case. Interesting how my bipolar disorder didn't seem to bother her much when I was still working in the med field. The size of a paycheck has the ability to alter how some people view things.
My apologies for getting off topic for a bit.

Re: Guitar from Arthur's Music Store arrived today :-)

Great story about the new guitar.  I just got my first guitar a couple months ago and am the rankest of beginners, but even at my level of (un)skill I have found my appreciation for the greats has been enhanced more than ever.  Jumped right into electric, because, why learn how to play acoustic when that's not what I listen to.  You really had a roller coaster day, that stinks but here's hoping tomorrow and the following days are happier times.

Jane, thanks for the support. I am doing much better.
