Topic: Joe, Arthur's Music owes you a commission

I was watching a video taken during the cruise Joe was just on and in the middle of it he mentioned Arthur's Music and that it is the oldest family owned music store in the country.  I thought it would be great to give them a call and see if there was something, anything, I could buy.  Nothing too expensive, just make a purchase to know I helped out a great store.

They happened to have an Ibanez RG560 built in Japan guitar.  These are seriously awesome guitars.  I could not believe the price, it was such a good deal.  Sure, it was played a lot and it showed but so what.  I believe it was Eric Clapton who said "show me the guitar that looks like it's been played, not the one that looks like nobody has touched it"...something to that effect.  Anyway, thank you, Joe, for the heads up about a great store.  Also, thank you, Amy, from Arthur's Music.  The customer service there is as good as you will find anywhere and the prices are most definitely affordable.

Thanks for sharing that.  A bit of a guitar safari story.  So you did buy it?

Yes.  I made the purchase.  It felt really nice to know I was buying something from such an admired and respected store.

like i said before i don't know that much about guitars but I have wanted to find an reasonably priced  Japanese made Ibanez for years. nice score. you gotta get out there doing the guitar safari if you're going to find the finds but it is great to have the reccomendations to lead you in the best direction

I see you're in Maryland.  If you are somewhat interested in guitars you should take a drive out to the Paul Reed Smith Guitars factory.  They give tours pretty much every day.  It is something you may enjoy.

I bought a Japanese made Ibanez RG560.  Those early built Japanese Ibanez RGs are fairly sought after guitars these days.  They were built from around the mid to late 80s to around the mid 90s?  It's the ones that were built during these years that still hold up to this day.  Outstanding instrument.  If interested you can look for the Ibanez RG550 or RG560.  The difference between the two is that the 550 has two humbuckers with a single coil in the center while the 560 has a humbucker in the bridge position and two single coils...one in the middle position and one in the neck position.

thanks. i've not been there. typically once i cross that bridge i am on a bee line for further east

i would love to work there though. if it could feed my lifestyle needs which i doubt but i can picture myself being happy just sanding guitars all day

Be careful for what you wish for.  I have a dear friend who works there and happens to be in a position to where he could possibly help you get hired.

good to know but not logistically feasible at this point in time but i will keep that in mind!
I told Joe if he ever started a manufacturing biz i want in and would maybe relocate!

You mentioned that you "told Joe". Was that in person or through email?  If it was by way of email then can you share with me how I can find the email address to use when attempting to contact Joe.
I used the "contact us" to write a letter to Joe. I simply asked that it be forwarded to him. Is that the best way of getting a message to him?  I don't want to hound the poor man. I only hope my thank you letter eventually reaches him. Lastly, is he known to reply to some of the personal emails he receives?  I'm not expecting a reply, can't risk the disappointment. It is merely curiosity that makes me wonder if people on this forum sometimes get personal responses from Joe.
It is so interesting how more and more Joe is becoming less and less the guy with the fancy suit and sunglasses on stage and more of a nice, friendly, man who appreciates the fans/friends who support him and his music. I will admit to having a few personal friends who are in hugely successful bands. Being around them when they're with fans compared to the times we spend away from fans, I do see a difference in their basic demeanor. I chalk it up to them feeling as though they have to be "on" when meeting fans. Alone with me they need not worry about such things.
