Here's a trick. The server times out when you are typing a long post,  and won't let you proceed since it logs you off. Keep your window open with the text you composed, open another, log in again, then go back and you are logged in on that one. It took me a while to figure out that one.

Yes losing a long text has happened to me several times as well.  Pretty horrible feeling.  If I know in advance I will be long-winded, just type it in Word then copy and paste it into the Forum reply box.  That works well too.
