Re: Drive - the new song

Wasn't blown away by this at first but it's growing on me. The licks he plays on that Gretsch in the video are very soulful. I can feel it and see it when he plays in the studio footage on the music video.

Re: Drive - the new song

Interesting some of the comments...  "the first Joe album I am going to take a wait-and-see-approach on".... "wanted something heavier"...

I, for one, love it.  If the rest of the album is full of stuff like "Drive", this will be for me the most anticipated JB album in quite awhile.  I've already listened to "Drive" as many times as I did much of the last album (which I also thought was good- it was great hearing him get AWAY from the "heavy english blues" thing.... I've heard enough of that from Joe, personally...  I have longed for the days of "Blues Deluxe"....  and I love all the horn tunes he's been doing lately..... personally, I'd love to hear a Memphis/Stax album from Joe- he's got the voice, and he's certainly got the chops!

I'm kind of in the same boat.  I like the heavy English blues/rock stuff, but I also absolutely loved the funkier, more soulful DSoB material.  From the clips on the "making of" youtube video, it sounds like Blues of Desperation will have a pretty wide variety... that sounds kind of like Dust Bowl (which is my favorite JB album, so that's a good thing).

+1 to the Simo comment.  I can't figure out why this guy isn't selling out 2000 seat venues coast to coast.  After hearing 3 live sets from him on the cruise, I can tell you that the live versions of those songs make the album feel a little boring.  They truly shine live.

If you are interested in Simo. Here is one of the shows he played on the cruise.

Quite phenomenal. I've posted the individual songs under the Cruise in the other artists page.

I discovered you had uploaded all the videos to your youtube channel yesterday and spent the entire day listening and watching (rather than catching up on work from the week at sea!).  I'm actually seeing Simo again on 3/19 when he comes to Denver.

Thanks again for the awesome videos.

We heard live versions of 4 of Joe's new songs on the cruise this week. Check them out. I think they are all quite good. My favorites at the moment are "Blues of Desperation", "Mountain Climbing" and "No Place For The Lonely"

Love both the new tunes I've heard. Definitely a little different..."Drive" has that "cool" quality that "Dust Bowl" had. Good Job, JB !

Some of us, me included, have been calling for something a little heavier, but you can't argue against quality and class.  Love this cut.  Can't wait for the album.

interesting how I was thinking the exact same thing about how nice it would be to hear some heavier material from Joe.  But, there is no denying that Drive is an incredible song.
