Topic: Toseland

This outfit was the surprise of my evening last night.

I was in Gruenspan Hamburg for Black Stone Cherry last night and Toseland were the support band. I didn't expect too much so cue my absolute surprise when the band heartily impressed with great songs and a full power packed 40 minutes of rock. They are well coupled to BSC on this tour.

Always a difficult challenge for a 40 minute warm up band facing a sell out crowd who just want to see the main event. Hats off then to Toseland who had us all from the very first song. Credit must go to the efforts of singer and mainman James Toseland........yes........that James Toseland...former 2 time World Superbike Champion and husband of Katie Melua. I thought at first I was hearing Myles Kennedy! Mr. Toseland has a hell of a set of pipes and gave a bloddy good account of his considerable talent. So much so that BSC invited him on stage for their encore with a rousing rendition of LZ's 'Rock 'n Roll'.

The bloke (Toseland) has charm and wit by the bundle and an excellent band behind him. They might just be one to watch. I shall definately check them out again when come in April for some headline shows.

I should say in closing that Black Stone Cherry were absolutely incendiary last night. An all action performance. Sound was brilliant and the songs from the new album 'Kentucky' sound just great. One of those gigs where the feeling is one of total satisfaction.

No Hits, No Hype.......................Classic Rock Jan 2012

Re: Toseland

I have met James many times whilst he was racing bikes, first met him when he was a really shy young lad getting his first ride for GSE Ducati - lovely guy, pretty sure we even gave him a serious hangover on Sambuca after a night out in London once (he was there to launch our Ducati race series), amazing how little alcohol a finely tuned athlete without body fat can take! smile Really down to earth guy who is a very quick bike rider.

A colleague has just told me, Toseland did a "Stormin' the Castle" gig a while back, and were awesome.
