Topic: Keeping The Blues Alive At Sea Cruise 2016

There will be a lot to post on this topic hopefully by others as well as myself, but at the moment I personally don't have a lot of internet access. So just wanted to briefly say that the cruise so far has been phenomenal, non-stop music, incredible lineup of musicians this year. Feet are killing me from standing and watching(filming) so many acts but it is so totally worth it. Joe's show the first night was awesome. There were 4 songs off the new album and Wow! that album is going to be killer. It's like an album full of John Henry's, to quote a friend of mine wink Beth & Joe's show last night was absolutely killer! The two of them came out all fired up and and just exploded on stage with incredible energy and excitement. Have to say it was probably 100 times better than the Carre shows had been in Amsterdam a few years ago. Can't wait to share the videos. Upload speed is ridiculously slow so will have to wait till I get home.

Set list was:
Them There Eyes
Sinner's Prayer
Rhymes
For My Friend
If I Tell You I Love You I'm Only Lying
Can't Let Go
Black As Night
I'd Rather Go Blind
Chocolate Jesus
Baddest Blues
Close To My Fire
Well, Well
Nutbush City Limits
I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know
Miss Lady

Thought you wouldn't be heard until Friday, but sometimes unexpected things surprise you. Thanks, Natasha - lady always on the run reporting what the bluesers create on their instruments and perform with their voice. Looking forward afterenjoying your cruise via your vids perhaps next weekend or later, no stress...
Thanks for your great work and posting afterwards!

Yeah so many great acts. Helped my friend Johnny A during his three shows. Hung tonight with Johnny and Vintage Trouble backstage on pool deck then party at my suite. Finally saw Austin Young play live. He was awesome. Austin is the young kid that Joe, John Catt and I picked to get the JB Goldtop I donated to Joes KTBA foundation before Red Rocks 2014. He was playing that. Very special for me to hear him. As Natasha said awesome cruise I will be back next year. Ron out more partying to go cheers Ron

I've been kicking myself for weeks for not going on this cruise and now I'm kicking even harder! I just don't like the risks of traveling in the winter.

Looking forward to the vids!

LIVE MUSIC IS BEST

You will be back next year?!  I am hoping that means there will be a third version of this cruise?  Last year was amazing, missing it this year has been painful.  I will be very happy if this goes again.

You're killing me. I might have to leave the better half ashore on her own. Maybe a spree at needless markup as a bribe?

Re: Keeping The Blues Alive At Sea Cruise 2016

What an incredible 4 days of music. Sitting in the airport at the moment waiting to board for the flight home so have a few moments. There will be a ton of footage to put up once I get home. Joe did 2 shows on the cruise. The first one featured 4 new songs and then a number of ones similar to the fall tour with the exception on doing "Nobody Loves Me But My Mother" instead of "Double Trouble" . I really loved the new songs and thoroughly enjoyed the first show, but the second show absolutely blew me away. In the second show he did a totally different set list and opened the show with 8 songs and a 3 piece band and then 4 more with the full band. It was insane! He went from "Don't Burn Down That Bridge" into "Are You Experienced"! I never imagined I was ever going to hear "Are You Experienced" and I couldn't believe he did that many songs with the 3 piece. It was so freakin' cool. Poor Joe was battling the elements with rain, a broken string and monitor issues but he is the consummate professional and took it all in stride. It was one of the best shows I have seen and I really hope he does the spring tour with this 3 piece opener. So here is the setlist of that second show.

3 Piece Band

Spanish Boots
Story of a Quarryman
I Know Where I Belong
The River
Burning Hell
Blues Deluxe
Don't Burn Down That Bridge
Are You Experienced

Full Band
This Train
Mountain Climbing
Blues of Desperation
Angel of Mercy
Ballad of John Henry

Gary Hoey fans it is a good chance that Gary Hoey will be on the cruise next year. His second blues cd will be out this summer and is killer. He will really add a great blues/rock tone to show including and awesome dobro tunes. I am going again for sure. Man Joe and Roy killed it this year. Awesome
Cheers Ron

3 of my alltime Joe favourites open the show... Wooow
And then afterwards the new songs...  What was the set of show 1?
I really hope he brings the set of show 2 to Germany next week also.
And not only where he does 2 shows at one venue.

Re: Keeping The Blues Alive At Sea Cruise 2016

My wife and I just finished dinner at the Miami airport Marriott too tired to do much else.  Heading back to Virginia tomorrow.  This was our first KTBA cruise and first cruise ever. Celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary.

We had a fantastic time. The meet and greet was great. I told Joe the story of our late Golden Retriever Annie who would lay in the family room watching the tv and listening to the music whenever I played one of Joe's concert blu-rays. When I first showed Joe the picture of Annie he grabbed the phone from my hand and said "Oh. A golden retriever.  Let me see." After I got my phone back I told him Annie's story and he talked about the golden he had growing up. I later showed him the photo of me holding the 59 Les Paul "Goldie" that I had the pleasure of playing last year.

The discussion with Norman Harris was great. I met norm two years ago at his shop on my 60th birthday.  I bought the last copy of his first book and everyone in the shop signed it with birthday wishes.  I ran into him again on the boat with his wife and introduced my wife to them. We chatted for about 15 minutes before everyone had to move on. Cool guy.

Also had the pleasure of meeting Ron (cindyron) before Norm's talk and having a fun conversation about guitars.

The Beth Hart Q&A was really great.  It is rare to hear an artist open up to the audience like she did. She is phenomenal.

The music of course was awesome.  It was hard to believe we were out in the middle of the ocean listening to Joe and Beth.

It was all a bit overwhelming but so much fun. Almost too much music and definitely too much food. LOL Hope we can do it again in the future.

Bill

Gold as always Natasha!

I think I see our next possible candidate for a Bonamassa signature guitar in the Blues of Desperation video. Basically a standard in The antique Pelham blue with a normal headstock, similar to the the bonabyrd but obviously alittle more standard fare.
