Topic: Blues of Desperation

So, I like the slightly new direction of Joe's new disc. It sounds like he's really concentrating on giving us a high quality disc. I love Joe, but I noticed the last couple albums have been a little uhh.."same" sounding. Still a bunch of great songs on these discs, but not quite as varied as previous ones. It sounds like Joe was aware of this himself, so he's decided to do a little re inventing, which is great. I expect Joe to "Keep Delivering" and this disc sounds like we won't be disappointed !!

Re: Blues of Desperation

To me Sloe Gin and John Henry are pretty similar (and awesome), Black Rock & Dust Bowl are a little similar (and awesome)... DttD - I don't like it much but had a similar sound and style as BR & DB.  Different Shades of Blue was pretty different from the previous few albums in terms of songwriting, arrangements, even the style of his solos, and it's one of my favorite of his albums.  So I can't say I agree, but hey, different strokes for different folks, everyone hears things their own way and that's cool.  As long as Blues of Desperation is good I don't really care how much it's the same or different.  I do love it when artists take a complete left turn yet still put out something really cool.
