Topic: B.B.King's NYC 11/25

Got a call at 10:30pm from my group of family and friends. The show was spot-on, Joe didn't show any signs of illness on stage and the sound was "perfect". Jim was "zapped" by the Gigliotti! (It's rays are powerful)....Sounds like the set list is staying the same..Can't wait to here from attendees...Joe B, if you recorded this, please let me know. Thanks, Cathy         Edited: 10/25 not 11/25 (there's that old timers again)

Re: B.B.King's NYC 11/25

first off i did record the show . 2nd it was great meeting up with micheal and sharon .just sucked we didn't have more time to spend together but was cool putting a face to the name . as for the show joe was well rested and the show was killer sound was great and the playing was off the charts . just seems there is something about new york city that brings the best out of joe and he did lay it all out there last night . so now i look foward to the 3 nights i will be seeing joe in november untill then i will be just spreading the word around and sharing the recordings i did ............ok i have to go listen to the show from last night and see how it came out . i will post more later .

p.s. joe if you read this hope you are enjoying the cd's i sent backstage for you . i got into the city late and didn't have time to hunt you down ..................joe

Hey Guys,
We had a great time at BB's last night. We all felt great about the show too. I'm glad you that were there enjoyed it too. Some highlights for me were meeting some of my heroes:Anton Fig, Jerry Gaskill from King's X, and Kenny Soule from a NC based band called DAG, who sadly now is no more. Anyway, great to see you again and Joe Beacon, thanks for the Dead show cds, can't wait to listen to them.

Take Care,
Bogie

Re: B.B.King's NYC 11/25

Hello all.  Nice place you've got here.  Thanks for having me.

My wife and I caught the show last night, our first time seeing JB.  Great show.  We sat stage left up front and had a spectacular view of Joe's playing throughout the evening.  Artist Peter Max was sitting at one of the reserved tables out front, just a couple of tables away.  He was moved to tears on more than one occasion, at times he was openly weeping, unable to control his emotions.  Those whacky artists.  It was kind of cool.  Max must've been with the Upper West Side crowd that Joe mentioned after donning the Yankee jersey.  I've always been fond of Max's work.  I digress.

I was most impressed by Bonamassa's voice.  It's come a long way in the short time since "You and Me", my wife and I agreed.  Inspired and mature, Joe's vocals are now on par with his world-class guitar playing.  It was a devastating one-two combination.  The man is at the top of his game and he knows it.  It was fun to watch.

Seeing him for the first time, what impressed me about his playing was his vicious attack.  He claims Johnny Winter and Ry Cooder to be strong style influences, but his attack reminded me of pure SRV, with a style all his own.  His mastery of the acoustic was jaw-dropping.  I didn't expect to see that.

What I did expect was a little slide playing.  Not that I'm dissapointed. The show was great.

I must say that Joe and his band smoked like no other guitar act I've seen this year, and I've seen Robben Ford (my personal all-time fave), Derek Trucks, Al DiMeola, Petrucci-Satriani-Gilbert, Eric Johnson, Adrian Belew and Vai with young Zappa.  Joe's was the most entertaining show, hands down.

I think that we'll catch him again in Morristown next month.

Did ya catch the little bit of Genesis in one of the songs? I can't remember the exact song now, but it was there! big_smile

Re: B.B.King's NYC 11/25

The Genesis tease is from the song "Los Endos" which is the last song on their "Trick of the Tail" album, but it's really the melody to the song "Squonk" which is earlier on the same album.  I'd love to hear Joe do the whole song....that'd be schweet!  (I'm an old-time Genesis fan....with Gabriel and the first few Phil Collins' albums).
