Re: Old music beats new.

Interesting but not all that shocking. The young today do not have the disposable income that so many of us older folk have, so they are streaming more and buying less. If we on the other hand want something in our collection then it gets done most of the time. All of the older music brought back on vinyl just adds to the disparity.

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

Re: Old music beats new.

I also am not surprised.  ahsmith33 makes some very good points, as far as it goes.  To me the #1 reason is the new music sucks.  All you have to do is listen to the music that is played as the background for TV ads.  They are trying to sell product to Millennial's and they are using "Whole lotta Love" by Led Zepplin, to sell Calvin Klein fragrance.  Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Beatles
have been the staple of music to sell main stream products to a younger generation.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Re: Old music beats new.

- I am not sure if this thread is meant as a celebration of old music or an acknowledgement that the entire music industry is going down the toilet.... The problem is far bigger than just putting all new music into a box and stating that it stinks. The industry is run by accountants and finance men rather than artists. Artists push boundaries, they experiment by taking risks rather than playing it safe. The perfect example of this was David Bowie.

There are some great “new” bands and artists out there, - my favourites like Rival Sons, Temperance Movement but they are not playing new music, - but it is still around, - BBC radio 6 plays a lot of new stuff, - but because the industry is controlled by those accountants it does not get heard by the majority of people.

Not sure I agree with the comment about adverts, plenty of new music gets used for adverts, - what about music where the rights are sold for console games, - who here has heard a band called Battles and their song “Atlas”? - it was a massive song on “little big planet” and used on adverts...
