Topic: My son's tribute to Bowie...
I was blown away today at my son's gig at our local markets. He has played there (as an invited and paid act) since the market organisers noticed him busking there for coin.
Normally he plays a combination of current pop numbers, with some John Mayer type stuff thrown in there as well. He is a fan of old rock bands like the Stones and Queen etc., and one day about a year ago, I mentioned that an artist by the name of David Bowie did some collaboration with those bands, and was an enormous musical talent in his own right.
My son being only 15 wasn't really familiar with Bowie's body of works, but went ahead to investigate it. I didn't think much of it until the news broke last week that David had passed. I was as sad as anyone in my generation, but I didn't realise that my son had also become a closet Bowie fan in the meantime, and was equally upset.
He only had a couple of days to prepare, and I didn't hear the entire thing until he performed it today. Here is my iPhone camera recording of his tribute rendition of 'Space Oddity'. I think the crowd were very appreciative...
