Topic: Dead & Co.
A Dead Head and good friend of mine laid a ticket on me as a Xmas gift to see Dead & Co. in S.F. on 12/27. I was a little skeptical to say the least about hearing John Mayer play Grateful Dead music, but was thoroughly surprised at how well he pulled it off! Dead & Co. consists of Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzman, and Mickey Hart of Grateful Dead fame along with John Mayer on guitar and to top things off Oteil Burbridge on bass. They opened the show by noodling into Truckin' and it was a Dead party the rest of the way! There were some extended jams on many numbers and a killer drum interlude by Bill & Mickey late in the second set. The first encore was an acoustic, as it should be, Ripple which lit the place up! Then they finished with Casey Jones. Great to hear their music again since the last time was about 10 years ago with Warren Haynes pulling "Jerry duty." Great show, great lights and effects, and the ambience you only experience at a Dead gig! We stood against the fence in front of the sound board and toward the end of the first set I turned around to stretch and there was big time Dead Head Bill Walton in the sound pit rockin' out!
