Topic: Gigliotti JB sig or SRV strat?

So I've seen a Gigliotti JB sig come up recently for about £1250 and I'm really interested. The only trouble is that to afford it, I would have to sell my SRV strat. I like the SRV strat but I've been thinking about getting a tele style guitar soon anyway.

I was wondering if people had any advice or experience with Gigliotti guitars.

Thanks,

Ewan.

It's not like a "normal" Tele from what I understand , from what I read

Plus I seem to remember reading in the gear section of this forum that Joe didn't think the neck pickup was very useful (I could be wrong but I'm sure I read that)

You'll want to come up with a different finance this project

It has a Mahogany body with a brass top, interesting combo.

I'd want one too if I knew I could get the tone from the rockpalast gig (Takin' the hit sounds amazing).

Thanks for the responses, and yeah thats part of the reason I want one smile

That song sounds so good. Takin the hit from Rockpalast and Bird on a wire from Beacon have made me want this guitar a lot.

Just as a caution some have had issues with the tops coming unglued. Something one would not expect from such a costly guitar. I have seen this problem on two. One formerly owned by a top player. They sound great only thus top issue is a drag. Must be some sort of curing problem with adhesive. I own two of these a Bonamassa tele and a Strat. They sound awesome

Re: Gigliotti JB sig or SRV strat?

The Gigliotti is not a mass produced guitar much more unique than a SRV Strat. Distinct sound a Tele on steroids. The pickups could be whatever was speced by the original buyer. They were pretty much all custom builds although he did build some speculative. The pick ups on the original prototype that Joe played many years was said to of had a muddy sounding front neck pickup in interviews and article in Tone Quest magazine. I believe Joe explained he hardly ever used it that the bridge pickup sound is what he preferred. The Gigliotti would be a much more unique guitar to pull out of the case for gigs and jams and the sound of course is unique.

Joe owned many Gigliottis the signature model differed from the prototype he played on Rockpallast. Signature had 22 fretts. I heard them once in an A/B comparison and they sounded really close. They are great guitars not everybody has one for sure. If you can pick one up under $2k I would say go for it.
