Topic: Rock Candy Funk Party 12/28, 12/29 & 12/30 2015

A fabulous run of 3 shows at the Baked Potato this December. So great to see Tal, Joe and the guys playing our favorite music at our favorite venue. The shows this time around were a bit different since they weren't promoting any new release. They added a blues number at least once per night with Joe singing. Was an incredible special treat to hear Joe sing and play his butt off in a tiny venue like this and the rest of the band were spot on with these tunes even though they had only just practiced a day or two with them. Just goes to show what world class, versatile musicians each and every one of them are. They can play anything and they are tight as hell. The best thing thought is seeing just how much fun they are all having. Joe is so free and relaxed with these guys and that vibe comes through and makes the music extra fun. At one point Joe was talking with the audience and mentioned how people always want to know what kind of music Rock Candy Funk Party plays, so he turns to Tal and asks him this question and Tal responds, "Happy!" And indeed it is.

Here are both the early and late show from the last night December 30th. They had a special guest, Oz Noy sit in on "Never Make Your Move Too Soon":

I love the sign right over Tal's head..
Absolutely No Audio/Video Recording ... smile

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

I don't pay attention to any stinkin' signs wink

Love the irony of it. I've had more comments on these videos about that sign than you can imagine.

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party 12/28, 12/29 & 12/30 2015

Here are the videos from the second night, December 29. I believe this was the best night out of the three. The energy was high from beginning to end and Joe was in a super good mood. The highlight for me was the surprise double whammy of Joe singing what he described as a "real greasy" "Look Over Yonders Wall" with awesome solos by both Ron and Fred, and then segueing right into the best version of "Nobody Loves Me But My Mother" I have ever heard Joe do. The whole show was just off the hook. When I talked to Joe afterwards I told him it was incredible and he was like, "Really?" I was like, "uh, yeah!!" Tal also responded similarly to Joe. He said when it is happening he is all caught up in keeping everything going. He has no way of knowing how the audience is feeling it since he is so wrapped up in it all. I find the different perspectives of audience versus band very interesting.

I absolutely had the best time at the baked potato....My wife and I met some great people (Rick B and his wife, Natasha and Phil and Linda)...the music was incomparible...and the atmosphere is beyond what a music fan like myself could ever imagine...This will not be our last journey to LA if RCFP continues to play at this venue....All the musicians seemed to be having as good a time as the crowd was...the volume was off the hook (probably good I already have some hearing loss from industrial noise) but I loved it...my only complaint is that it didn't last long enough...oh well, I guess you can't have everything...My sincere thanks to Natasha, Phil, Linda, and Rick and his wife who made the experience even better by just being there with their warmth of spirit (I didn't say spirits...lol) Can't wait for the next time....

Our pleasure as well meeting you and the wife. We all have it down now with the preshow street hang and, as you say, incomparable music and setting, so welcome to The BonaSpuds (facebook secret group you can join if you want where we share the stuff and give heads up for coming shows). The whole package! I'm getting the show vids I shot put up online and they'll trickle in as I have time. I never was this busy until I retired. big_smile Night two are pretty much identical to Natasha's since we were elbow to elbow. The final show I shot from the corner bench so it has a different perspective.

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party 12/28, 12/29 & 12/30 2015

Pat6put6man, we enjoyed meeting you as well.
My computer is out of commission (hopefully for a moment and not forever) so I've been using Phil's and he doesn't have a video editor program so I haven't been able to put together the 23 minute "One Phone Call" from the first night. Camera splits the video after 20 minutes, which is pretty frustrating at times. But I have uploaded nearly all the rest from the first night. Danny Sadownick asked me to not put up the first song because he wasn't happy with his performance and I always honor the musicians requests. The first night had a few issues here and there. Joe's amp was being very cantankerous with little outbursts every now and then. He even had to shut it off at one point and then quickly turn it on right before his turn to play. Joe joked afterwards that they should just play with no audience for the first night because it is frequently fraught with little issues. We all thought it was still a great night of music and it was nice to see Joe's mom and brother-in-law in the audience for the first set. Joe made a funny joke about his mom seeing the huge baked potatoes. But having spent a little time around his mom, I highly doubt she said exactly what he mentioned wink Was pretty funny though and happened at the beginning of "Don't Be Stingy". He also dedicated "Nobody Loves Me But My Mother" to her in the second set. Unfortunately she didn't stay for that set, but as Tal piped up, "Don't worry, Natasha will get it for her". Tal knows, lol. Joe told me the next day his mom loved seeing the video. Thought that was nice of him to share with me smile So here is the set list and what I have so far of the first night's show:
