Topic: Top Albums for 2015

Surprisingly I've picked up a number of albums this year and though none have separated themselves from the pack there are some artists worth mentioning from my perspective.
I don't know if it's the loss of my wife, but for the life of me traditional blues has lost it's magic.  It has just become too real for me.  Instead I find myself listening and drawn to young people creating something new.  The blues has lost that "newness" of late and has become too derivative.  I like more popular country musicians like Chris Stapleton, Adam Hood and recently Eric Church.  Church's newest album, Mr. Misunderstood, is a complete departure from earlier efforts that pandered to typical mainstream fans.  It reminds me of when John Mayer dropped that awesome blues album out of thin air after all those Pop albums.
There's a lot of great songs on this album that reminds me when John Cougar and Tom Petty were hungry and risk takers.  His duet with Susan Tedeschi is the best thing she's ever done and a song that tugs on the heartstrings.

Re: Top Albums for 2015

It was nearly a year ago I gave my soon to be new wife her engagement ring.  I played this song as my statement of affection.  Can interchange Hollywood and California for Atlanta and Georgia to get my meaning.  This album is one of my faves of Adam Hood.

Re: Top Albums for 2015

I was surprised there wasn't a lot of best of lists posted here.Usually it is a busy thread.
I will put my list together and post later.I have to say this this is one year where I can't say I have a run away for my favorite new studio release.Maybe because Joe didn't release a new studio album this year. There were some very good albums though in my opinion.

Re: Top Albums for 2015

I guess nobody's interested in this year end post, especially me shouting once more my changing musical tastes.  That said, I'll say this that music was very much breathing in 2015.  As for blues music I'd say King King's new one, Reaching For the Light, is another example who rules the blues these days.

Re: Top Albums for 2015

Hah, I can't remember what albums came out in 2015!  I certainly did buy music this year... but as usual, few new records.

I got Iron Maiden's new double album "Book of Souls" for Christmas, so I guess that's my #1 since I can't remember what else came out that I bought.  Kevin Shirley produced it, so there is a bit of a JB connection. wink

I also really liked Queensryche's new album, although I haven't bought it.  I was never a huge fan of the band, but the new album is really good and I've streamed it quite a bit.

I listened to a lot of blues this year, but I don't recall buying anything new.

Re: Top Albums for 2015

Thunder - Wonder Days
Iron Maiden - Book of Souls
King King - Reaching for the light

Re: Top Albums for 2015

the lack of input is perhaps interesting because the creative side of things with new music is drying up? Ask me about best gigs and I would have no problem but I struggled to think of albums released in 2015 that have stood out.

Dub Side of the Mule - Gov’t Mule - old stuff released this year.

Led Zep remasters? Again old stuff re-released.

.....interesting that nobody has picked David Gilmour’s solo album?

Looking forward to The Temperance Movements new album in 2016 though!

My YouTube channel with plenty of my Joe's videos dating from 2009 inc his first Hammersmith Odeon ones:

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Re: Top Albums for 2015

I agree with the above, there was not a lot of albums released, at least in the genre I listen to .... blues rock.

Robben Ford's " Into The Sun " was the best I heard this past year.

Nothing after that, cept for some Led Zep re-releases.

Re: Top Albums for 2015

James Bay - Chaos and the calm
Walter Trout - Battle Scars

I forgot about that one, I've been meaning to pick that up.  Thanks for the reminder.
