Topic: Bit torrents and piracy

I have been reading the threads on here and have come across people exchange bit torrent links for JB downloads.  I hope that the links are for NON COPYRIGHTED material.

We should all have the integrity and enthusiasm to support these guys buy BUYING their material and letting the producers of this material, both physical and intellectual, be rewarded for their efforts.  Not only should we not download the material but we should also preserve our collections and not share them to be copied by friends and others.

I want JB to succeed (and others). I would love nothing more than to get rid of the plethra of pop garbage that is dominating our airwaves, our satellite digits, and our music outlets.  I want the word to spread and the only way that can happen is by supporting them through BUYING their material and telling others so they can BUY their music.

If we don't like the way the music industry publishes and distributes our music, then let's change the system, but let's help these artists provide for themselves, their families, and way of life so we have music in the future.

I know I am on my soap box but I will get down now and let's SPREAD THE WORD!

Most if not all respect Joe's taping policy. Which is displayed on this site somewhere. I have not seen the Torrent list so I don't know what is availabel now. I do know that if someone trys to sell bootleg copies of official releases Joe's fans police this pretty well and do what it takes to stop the piracy.

Re: Bit torrents and piracy

The only stuff I've seen or heard about are specific shows, where Joe allows taping. If you look under the tour schedule on this site, you'll find Joe's taping policy.

BrainSalad:  To set your mind at ease, most of the torrent sites have very strict rules about non-sharing of copyrighted material.  The links you see periodically posted here are permitted live recordings, which Joe has always encouraged since I've been aboard the Bona-train.  In fact, I'd never even heard of a torrent before about a year or two ago when someone posted links to torrents to download two of Joe's shows from Sculler's Jazz Club in Boston.  It's sort of loosely based on the same concept as Napster (peer-to-peer sharing of files), but only for trader-friendly music.

As Jim stated earlier, this community is pretty vigilant about stopping things which aren't good for Joe, including filing complaints with Ebay when idiots try to sell the live recordings which are supposed to be traded for free based on Joe's policy.

I am sure that 99% of us are in agreeement that we shouldn't allow or promote anything which will take money out of Joe's pocket or prevent him in any way from making a livelihood by making music which we so thoroughly enjoy.  As for the possible 1%, there's a few bad apples in every barrel....not much you can do about that.
