Topic: Jeff Buckley

I don't think he has ever had his own topic on here. He gets forgotten by many and yet is often name-checked as an inluential artist by many more.

My own daughter (21) discovered him only recently and was rendered spellbound by his delivery.

This popped up today. Often covered but Buckley does it best. Apparently it was his last live performance of the song. He certainly did it justice........

Re: Jeff Buckley

A hugely talented and influential artist who died tragically, and way before his time. Like his father before him, Jeff's particular style was difficult to pigeon-hole, but if it hit you, it hit hard. I've always been amazed by the dual quality of his voice, the way the fractured timber belies the sheer dynamics.

This has long been one of my favourite covers by Jeff, Killing Time (Siouxsie Sioux in The Creatures guise)

By coincidence, I've just been talking to a good friend about Jeff and his music, and have been recommended a recent bio-pic; Greetings From Tim Buckley,  a story  3 years before his break out (and only) album "Grace" traveling to NYC to perform in a tribute concert for his father Tim who he never knew but was always in the shadow of, as an artist.

As an aside, Jeff was at one time linked with singer Elizabeth Fraser from The Cocteau twins, another unique and haunting voice, this is an acoustic version of one of their songs, All Flowers In Time bend Toward The Sun:-

When life gives you lemons; don't make lemonade.
Give back the lemons.  Why were the lemons free?  What's wrong with the lemons?
Do Not trust the lemons...

Re: Jeff Buckley

Great mention! Have seen him live and was shocked to learn from his death while I was on holiday. This really was heavy news. Jeff was uber-talented.

Re: Jeff Buckley

If you want to get a real feel for the man listen to this. It is a BBC podcast, only 30 minutes which details some of his exploits during his first trip to the UK. Excellent interviews and insights from the people who were with him and helped him get his first gigs in the UK.

It is funny, and ultimately very sad and tragic.......but in the middle is a recording of a live performance of 'Grace' he gave at Radio GLR. He was so angry, having been delayed in traffic getting to the studio, and belittled by the station for his tardy timekeeping! In the interview he is, at firstwas monosyllabic, then he sings and it is quite one of the most amazing performances I have ever heard.....of anything.

On the strength of that interview at GLR he sold out to shows the same night in London at different venues!

I love this podcast. It told me more about Jeff Buckley in 30 minutes than I could ever found anywhere else. A fragile free spirit, sadly lost, way before its time. But, now he, and his music shall never age.....

Treat yourself........to 30 minutes of..........difficult to find the word........but  'beauty' somehow comes into my mind.

That's really cool that you got to see him on stage during his short career, where and when did you catch him?
I'm also a big fan, 'Grace' will always be special for me.
