Topic: Newcastle Metro Arena......

.......that would take some beating! Just back at the hotel and reflecting on tonight's show.joe played a blinder, great backing from a new(mostly,to me),band, just the right amount of horn and Hammond for me,tho the odd one said it was a bit too much-took away from Joe 's solos, and they may have a point, but to me,with this calibre of musicians, was just about right.A good 'power trio'start,Spanish Boots kicked things off,and as for our 'possible restricted view'ticket-well......slap bang centre stage, two rows above the mixing desk was as good as we could have got,no craning of the neck to see over anyone in front on the level,I'm sure petew would agree,as we introduced ourselves before the gig.The night flew by,before we knew,Sloe Gin picked up,morphing into John Henry, then two encore songs I didn't know but, having bought the Muddy Rocks cd there,I'm sure they're on there. look out,uk,this is a class act, enjoy!

Come on you Blades!

Re: Newcastle Metro Arena......

Thanks for the quick review. That's a bunch of top musicians in that band. Joe has his "proper blues band" as he said at the Shepherd's Bush show a while back. You're all in for a treat!

Re: Newcastle Metro Arena......

Great start to our UK tour. Enjoyed hearing those older songs with the 3 piece and it was cool hearing more familiar songs that now have a different feel to them because of the new band. Really loved finally seeing "Happier Times" done electric. The solo is just incredible. Arena was a bit cold and quite the ugliest building, but once Joe started playing none of that mattered. So nice to see him at the M&G before the show. Got to talking and completely forgot to get our photo taken. Oh well, not like we don't have many others and and what he was talking with us about was far more important and and just made us so happy. Love that guy!

Nice review, Idolbone, you've really whetted my appetite for Brighton (if it wasn't already whet enough :lol). Seems you and Pete struck lucky with your tickets. smile

Thanks for yet again for your efforts in capturing these songs for everyone, Natasha - you're amazing. I look forward to seeing them when I get home tonight and catching up with you and Phil next week. smile

Re: Newcastle Metro Arena......

Agree with the comments. I just loved the version of Happier Times. Going Down was a surprise, have lost count of the number of times I have seen that performed by different artists.

Briefly talked to Phil & Natasha before the start - we will catch up more in Brighton. Enjoyed the pint after with Tom and his son. oh and thanks to Maggie for being the "mobile" go between smile

And Joe being told to **** off back to America after mistaking a Geordie for a Scotsman backstage.

Re: Newcastle Metro Arena......

I particularly liked the announcer informing us that the 1Direction concert we were all expecting had been cancelled-cue cheering-before introducing Joe instead! Back to the music, and I loved the trumpet solo (possibly Happier Times? ),brought to mind film noir as the stranger emerges from a nightclub, into the dark, rainy street, adjusting his hat and pulling up his collar of his overcoat, lighting a cigarette, before disappearing into the night.......or was that just me?

Come on you Blades!

Re: Newcastle Metro Arena......

Natasha, love love your videos!  They're great!  Too bad he has to turn his back to you so often, but then again with those tight pants he was wearing . . . . wink

Oh yeah! Can't actually believe how good the seats where, even if they where at the back.  The only annoyance I had was the people a couple seats to my left who seemed to get up to the bar/toilet every couple of minutes.

Really happy that I got to hear "The River" for the first time live. I love that song.  The new rig sounds pretty good.

Joe mention on twitter that he was sorry for everyone being so cold in there, I have no idea about that cause I was pretty warm.

Definitely worth the trip, I can't wait till the next time.
