Don't look now, but here come the Cubs! 5 in a row, including a 4 game sweep of the defending champs, 9 of their last 10, 4th best record in baseball...securing a wild card berth would be a huge lift for this young team!
What is happening on the north side??
Good luck to the cubbies Bill. Our team never panned out and it is a wait for next year deal again. So much talent and no results. Pitching and hitting totally out of sync.

edit: On the bright side our local LL champs are smoking the West Regionals. Bonita is a suburb of San Diego. They are sluggers all around and it is dinger city. the team is 12-0 this year and have buried the opposition 243-71 for the year. They don't have great pitching and don't need it since they have slugged a dozen so far in the playoffs. Mercy rule last night in the 4th after 3-3 run homers buried the poor kids from Utah 11-1 and a no-hitter to boot since the lone run was due to a 3 bag error in the 1st that turned a sure out to a triple, he then scored on a passed ball. One more and they are in the LLWS and off to the big show!

It's been a long time coming, but the Cubs have a team that is competing right now. They've cooled off a bit after going like 21-4 in a recent stretch, but I think the wheels would have to fall off for them to miss a wild card spot, which would be a huge accomplishment for a team so young. Then a single game playoff and who knows what can happen??
Objectively, I question whether they have enough starting pitching...there's a big fall-off after Arrieta and Lester. Maybe Hammels can get back to his early season form. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy the ride, knowing that whatever happens this year, the Cubs are going to keep getting better as the young guys get more experience.

"The Cubs have the right skipper, players and those great fans....if the Giants pull out a miracle, then the Dodgers can cry themselves to sleep.....the Yankees wont win it all, there not good enough.....the Astros need some love....the Cardinals have a sweet staff....the Rangers have been so close, who knows....the Angels can bawl all night with the Dodgers.....Pappelbon is a nut job, and Harper is a prima donna, I feel for Matt Williams.....the Blue Jays are legit.....baseball is king at Shreddys house!

I left some meat on the bone on my last post, no one called me out for not mentioning the Pirates and Mets.....the playoffs are here, I will take the Chicago Cubs to squeeze out a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.....tonight the Houston Astros will face the New York Yankees at the Bronx zoo, I will toss a coin and go Yanks on this goodie.....let go all you baseball fans, lets hear your guesses

Arrieta tomorrow night, which gives this Cub fan high hopes.
He's been superman so far this year....and better than superman since the break.
As good as the position players have been, Arrieta would be my pick for Cub MVP.
Anything can happen, but the Cubs are hot right now. As I said before, making the playoffs makes this season a success for this team. What I LOVE about them is they want more and believe they can take it. They believe (and so do I) that they're as good as anyone still standing.
Why not us, why not now.

The Cubbies will have to do better than the Yankees did to accomplish that...
If it helps, most Royals fans like me are pulling for the Cubs to beat the Cardinals...
