So, what new piece of gear has inspired you to play?

Re: Awful quiet here!!!

I just picked a Catalinbread DLS MK III. I wasn't super impressed with it at first, but then I put it on the Superbass setting, and THEN I put it on 18V. Really killer drive pedal and works great with a TS808 in front of it. Permanent stay on my small board.

Amp: Firebird Musical Amplifiers
Guitars:62 LP SG , 02 FB VII, JB FB I, 76 Electra Omega, 64 Firebird V, 73 LPC, 61 Custom Tele, 59 and 60 Melody Maker
Effects: Mythos Chupacabra, Strymon Deco/Flint

Re: Awful quiet here!!!

I did a lot of buying and selling over the last few years and I'm pretty happy with all my guitars and amps.  No real desire to get anything new.  GASless for the first time in a long time.  It's actually pretty nice.

Re: Awful quiet here!!!

That new piece is still on the way and goes by the name Maxon OD-820 Pro ;-)
I am very happy with my equipment, but miss a green pedal on my board. Next on my list could be a new wah, but that is due to the fact that my Clyde has a technical issue and fixing could cost too much, if I wanna stay with Fulltone original parts.

Re: Awful quiet here!!!

I've been playing through a crap marshall stack mg100 for my Kiss tribute band. And I'm playing a cracked mirror paul stanley washburn. I can't stand the tone - and it's all about look. I'm in the middle of making some fake marshall stacks so I can at least use a nicer amp hidden behind the stage.

Meanwhile I'm saving up for an early 60's sg jr big_smile

Re: Awful quiet here!!!

I'm not sure it really meets Jay's definition of new, but my most recent acquisition is an Alvarez Yairi WY1TS. She's a beauty, and certainly inspires me to play...

Re: Awful quiet here!!!

This time last year I was happily playing into my Peavey Classic 50/410 with a Tubescreamer and Klon clone for added oomph.

Earlier this year I decided I wanted a different sound so bought a Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Limited Edition (Fudge Brownie) and for dirt I bought a Free The Tone MS-SOV, a Okko Diablo Gain+ and a Wampler Euphoria to choose from. Never been happier with the range of tones available to me. It has cured my GAS!

Re: Awful quiet here!!!

Back in July there was a big guitar show in the Philly suburbs (Valley Forge area) and I spotted a nice 1964 vintage 335 that I just had to have so I grabbed four guitars to trade and some cash and headed back to the show.  I sold three of the guitars with in minutes but the last one took hours to get the price I needed to make the deal work but by the time I got back to the dealer the 335 was sold.  Gut punch!

So with a pocket full of cash I got home, went online and over time bought a Kemper Powerhead Profiler (thanks Ron for the advice) and a Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Junior Reissue Korina.  I over paid for the Junior but it's a lot of fun to play.

To be honest, I just got burned out.  I've been playing 25+ years.  The last 6 years, since my son was born, I prioritized family, then work, then music.  EVERYTHING else was not even on the list, and I felt i was hitting it pretty hard.  I've been playing or practicing almost daily since.  I went one stretch of practicing for 7 months without missing a single day.

A couple of months ago I just had to stop and felt I needed time off.  I'm hardly listening to music these days, I pick up a guitar a couple times a week for 15 minutes or so to learn a song or noodle, but I don't push it.  I'm going to give myself a little while away and see how I feel.  When it's time to get back to it I want to be refreshed.  No GAS if your head just isn't into music.  I did a fair amount of buying and selling over the last 5 years, and came to an assortment of guitars I'm really happy with.  I know what I like, and got rid of everything that wasn't perfect.  This actually cut down a lot of GAS.  I can play on anything, but if I'm going to own it, it has to be perfect.  Knowing what that means to me has narrowed the list down quite a bit, and that's been a good thing.

You are a wise man sounds like a very well thought out plan. Your priorities are spot on. Cheers Ron
