Topic: Electro Voice no longer makes 16 ohm EVM12Ls

I decided I was going to try some EVM12Ls and couldn't find any 16 ohm.  EV says they stopped making them.  What?

That response left me a little dumbfounded.  Being far from pro I'm a little confused at what to do if I still want to try them.  Amp has 16ohm and 8ohm outputs.  Going to a 2x12 cab not sure how to proceed.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks

Wire two 8Ω speakers in series = 16Ω

Wharris is right..

hate the fact we can't post pictures.

Thanks guys, seems simple enough.  Based on the diagram looks like if one speaker goes then neither will work wired in series.  Is that the only difference between parallel and series? Any difference in tone between the different resistances for the same speaker model?

Re: Electro Voice no longer makes 16 ohm EVM12Ls

With analog circuits like that, it's not surprising that the difference can change the dynamics and the tone.

This article summarizes (and links to) the Hunter amp book:

Re: Electro Voice no longer makes 16 ohm EVM12Ls

Remember two or more speakers combined sums their power handing.

So two 60w speakers handles 120w, two 300w speakers handles 600w.
This combined power handling is the same in series or parallel
Also
Chance of a speaker breaking connection so the circuit is open and no sound is rare ( besides that will blow the OT anyways)

Most speakers when they go; the voice coil will fuse, when they've been over heated and make a pinging noise or become distorted in sound

If you blow an EVM 12L you will be up for a medal... They are almost bullet-proof.

You'll only need but one.
