Topic: Country and Blues

I've crossed over more into Country in the last couple years, but haven't forgotten my blues roots.  Occasionally I come across songs with a blend of the two genres and they're special.  Chris Stapleton's "Tennessee Whiskey" is one of those type tunes.

"Like A Wrecking Ball" ........ 2015 meets 1966.  Just love the smokiness of the organ on this baby-making song.

Re: Country and Blues

I love the Stapleton Curby. That guy can sing! Great song.
That echo just grates on me for number two and his voice has no appeal to me either.

Concur with RickB.  Liked the Stapleton tune but wasn't big on the second Church song.  The echo was definitely annoying.

Stapleton really reminded me of a younger and slightly bluesier Willie Nelson for some reason.

I'll be jiggered, you're right, but I still love that song.

Here's another Stapleton song.  Both Mitzi and now Cindy like this one.  I do too.

Another one more blusier.....

Much better. He'd do well to junk that first one. Most annoying echo I ever heard.

Re: Country and Blues

The one you didn't like is Eric Church.  The other guy is Chris Stapleton.  Lately I have been listening a lot to Adam Hood and Zane Williams.  The great thing about real Country songs is there's a story told.  On Zane's album Overnight Success the guy has a song that captures my emotions about my Son, my new wife Cindy and me dealing with my loss.  It's an outstanding album and I strongly recommend both artists.  Here's the one that's me.....

This is the one for my boy.  He's still trying to find his way since New Year's Eve 2013.  He's back home in Indiana and I'm working in Georgia.  I've traveled a lot in my jobs and missed out on precious times.  This is another story that many Dads can relate to.

A poignant tune. Nicely sung.

Whenever anybody mentions Country Blues this song is the first thing that comes to mind.

Re: Country and Blues

I like Chris a lot, but really really love Zane's voice here.....thanks for posting them. I dug out some old Hank Wilson stuff the other day, Leon in his prime and at his best imo. I'm still waiting patiently for Joe to announce that he's going to Nashville to make that "country" compilation with a slew of guest artists. Can you see him throwing down on some fast pickin with Brent Mason? I can.

Tres -
The guy to check out is Adam Hood.  You should be able to catch him in concert as he's from near where you live.  Like Chris and Zane, he's the real McCoy.  I will be seeing him soon.  Just like Joe when I first heard about him, I went out and bought all his music.  Played his song "Stars Around a Cajun Moon", when I gave an engagement ring to my new wife.  His latest album Welcome to the Big World is a great album.  The kind you put in your car CD player cruising your favorite blue highway with the top down.

Re: Country and Blues

Thanks for the heads up, will check him out and let you know what I think.

Re: Country and Blues

Think Rick Huckaby did this for Trace Adkins.

Don't know why, but I think Joe could do something with this song if he is going to do a Country album.  Rick Huckaby is one of those diamond in the roughs, flying under the radar.

Re: Country and Blues

Didn't know he wrote this song.  So much LESS Nashville than Thomas Rhett's version.

Scott, check this out. You ever heard of her ? She only has 11 CDs out, and is a Juno award winner. What a voice.

Listened to her video and like her singing.  Very good.  That song though was too dark for me.  The dj said she's done a cover album and I will check that out.

Re: Country and Blues

Some didn't like Eric Church's other song but this duet with Susan Tedeschi is pretty nice.
