Topic: Directed to my idol joe bonamassa

Dear joe, I saw you last april at the fox theater in Detroit, you changed my life I'll be honest, I was a Hendrix junky and a zepplin junky and most definitely bored of all of the music I had been listening to prior to discovering you. I would like to thank you for showing me the blues, I found you on YouTube and heard you playing blistering riffs with hints of all of my other favorite guitarist. I would like to thank you so much because of how you made my musical knowledge so much bigger, you showed me people like Paul Kossoff, Johnny Winter, Freddie King, Albert King, Eric Clapton with the Blues Breakers! Steppin out is a riff that repeats in your head and can put you in a good mood instantly! You are all of those guitar players put into one joe, and you deserve everything coming your way and everything that has already happened. My main point of this post is that I am 14 and consider myself an "OK" guitarist, well obviously not compared to a lot of other people in the forum but I need help, I can not play a note with a good vibrato for my life, it is very hard for me and I try for an hour a day and nothing has yet to come from it, is there any exercises I could do to become better at this? Thank you again joe, you are the best, and the future of the blues

Heh Marshall. I know you would like Joe to personally respond and at times he does. I want to give you a couple of sources for instructional DVD's Joe has made earlier in his career. Granted his playing has involved and although I haven't watched either in quite awhile since you are a new fan I'm sure you would enjoy these. The first one was in 2005 I believe and he goes over his Signature sound at that time. His multi amp setup and pedal board.

The second one was when Joe was eighteen which I discovered not long after I became a fan. It again is a great video showing his earlier guitar style and more instructional than the newer one but it is a great one to have for a fan of his playing and again it shows his style during that era of his career. I believe he does cover vibrato technique. on this one.

Hope this helps if Joe doesn't respond. You have to realize he is on tour and his days are pretty full. He does check in here from time to time and sometimes does respond to posts directly. Maybe he will but if he doesn't I hope these videos will give you the answers you need.

Nice job Jim.  Marshall, you could not have picked a better person to model yourself after.  Not only is Joe the best guitarist of all time, IMHO, he is a really good person.  Anything worth while takes work and to make to the top of what ever endeavor you choose takes an unbelievable amount of work, but it is so worth it when you arrive. Go get 'em!

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.
