Topic: Three Kings

Just a quick note to Joe and band mates.  What a stellar mini Tour this will be.  I am so happy that you will get to sing these awesome songs. BB, Freddie and Albert all such diverse catalogs.  I know you will kick some major A** tonight.

Lucky folks that get to attend, please post set list data as soon as you can.

Wonder which venue will get filmed for the DVD.

Way to go Joe.

Re: Three Kings

Great show in Camden!

Joe and the bands arrangement of Hummingbird was just awesome!!!

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Re: Three Kings

Good show on Camden.  Bit disappointed in the 2 hours.  Encore seemed rushed esp the final "The thrill is gone".  Sound was good, not opera house quality (waiting anxiously for Wilmington).  "Never make your move too soon" arrangement was a highlight for me.  What was the 1st song on the encore?  I can't place it?

Yup, 11 total..

It's basically the Howling/Wolf lineup w/ the Soul Sisters

Re: Three Kings

Was quite a show last night in Camden. Lots of songs that were new to me. And lots of Mickey Mouse ears and Flying Vs! Joe appeared to be enjoying himself and very proud of his 11 piece band. A true blues band like from long ago with backup singers and horns. It was a lot to take in since it was a brand new show so I'm still kind of processing it all in my mind. Thought Joe might have seemed a little rushed, it was a lot of songs to get in and since this was the first show I'm wondering if they are going to keep all or trim it a bit. Joe was working like mad up there, sweating through his suit and I felt like he needed to pause a moment to catch his breath. There were breaks in between the different sections with some video footage shown like at Red Rocks. So happy we'll be seeing a few of these shows so I can become a little more familiar with the songs and get a chance to better absorb the whole experience.

Re: Three Kings

Thank u Natasha for the quick uploads of this great kickoff show. (When do you sleep?)  From my view right behind you, I marveled how steady you hold the camera.  (And I felt for you every time I could see someone from your aisle getting up and heading your way for concessions / restrooms ... thankfully, not too many times.)

Nice to see you and Phil once again ... although u had to stand .. and talk through a chainlink fence. (I felt bad) smile  Cathy as well ... along with a new face to go with a Forum Username ... Amsterhammer (adding a Camden NJ stamp to his passport. ... asked him to post back up ... it's been a while.)

Indy ... was just asking the Usher "may I walk to the end of aisle #3 to say hi to someone?" ... when it was lights out!  I did make a visual after the show of someone in a light yellow button-down with light color checks ... salt / pepper hair ... but was hesitant to approach and say "Indy?" smile

Enjoy PNC tonight Natasha and all attending.  Maybe get the crowd going .... a nice Happy Birthday rendition for Mr. Anton Fig (#63).  8/8/52.  However ... maybe don't record and post.  I have always heard the H BDay song publishers are real sticklers for their royalties!! smile

"I was in Space for less than 2 weeks … and suddenly Jeaniene’s back … half the Band is off the gd wagon … we have comedians opening for us … and the nice kid that ran our website is now a kleptof’nmaniac.  Boy ... did you guys miss me!!"  Phil Valentine - Road Manager - Staton House Band

JBLP#251 (unaged) ... thank you Ron.

Re: Three Kings

What a show! Art Deco feel to the set. Horns behind stands with the JB logo to the left. Three fine singers in front of that. Then Kirk, Anton in the middle, Mike and Reese to the right. Joe held the front. The intro to Freddie first and that big red 335. You know I was thrilled. Kirk also had a 335. We all know Joe is a tone fanatic, but that was even more evident last night. Perfection. Every note was intended. The Freddie set was the most demanding on Joe's vocals, IMHO. He nailed it and had so many nuances, accented by left hand gestures and finger snaps. He was truly on his game. I thought "this is going to be my favorite". Then it was Albert's turn.
When the Flying Vee came out and "I'll Play the Blues for You" started, I thought maybe this would be my fav. Loved every bit and there was more funk than I've heard from Joe. Solid bottom from Anton and Michael. Having Kirk Fletcher play rhythm for you?? Not too shabby. lol Kirk also took a few leads and the man can play!!
Out came that lovely black Gibby and off we went on the BB trip. smile I swear I heard a touch of Zydeco on one song. So many layers.
The encore was perfection. One nod to each of the 3 Kings. If there were any glitches, they weren't noticeable. The sound was proper, after some early tweaking, and the lights were beautiful and never uncomfortable for the audience. We lucked out and had 3 empty rows in front of us. I watched Roy come and go, I imagine listening from different places, and we waited for the onslaught of late arrivals.
I did notice the 3 Kings tee shirts were not for sale at the show. I'm glad I bought one for George before the show. I hope they make an appearance in the future. I'll take a 3Kings pin too please wink
I can't wait for this DVD. There's never a way to let Natasha know how grateful I am for her recordings. This show speaks for itself. Joe B and his orchestra are not to be missed. Congrats to Joe and everybody for a stellar event.  Sam, it's always lovely to see you xxx
