Topic: Gear Heads Watch This

http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/2 … own-hinder

Get ready to roll your eyes when you see and hear the so not guitar freaks talk guitars. The band Hinder from the great state of Oklahoma's two guitarists that know absolutely nothing about guitars and they don't care.

Re: Gear Heads Watch This

LOL - They sound like just gigging guitarists who don't care too deeply about the intricacies of their gear.  A bit like how most of us *used* to be before internet forums came along! big_smile

As long as the tech know (as he does in this case), then all is good.  I am sure those guys like playing guitar more than fiddling with pickup wiring etc.  Interesting to see that they use Eleven Racks to tone consistency from venue to venue and to maintain tone matches with their records...

The interviewer seems to know even less.

Pretty much.  I think a lot of professional, gigging guitarists don't care as much about gear as long as it sounds decent, it's reliable and it's in budget.

Re: Gear Heads Watch This

I don't know the music of Hinder. I think the internet has accomplished one very negative thing, which is consume our time with gear and not with playing. I have cut down my forum/social media exposure by A LOT. Playing more, instead.

Re: Gear Heads Watch This

^^ Same as macg1, I have but way back and stopped visiting a lot of other gear forums.  This forum is literally the only one I visit nowadays.

Those guys in the interview pretty much remind me of how I was 20 years ago when I was actually gigging a lot.  I would just go to a music store, see a guitar I liked, save up and buy it and then play the heck out of it at shows.  I never worried about the pickups in it, or the woods, or the wiring, or the fret height.  Never even used to take them for a professional setup.  Just bought and played them stock.  (Still have those guitars BTW).

It was only later in life when I stopped playing gigs, got a career and had disposable income that I joined forums online and realised how much I was SUPPOSED to fuss over gear.  Spent a LOT of $$$ on gear but realised that (a) I didn't really need it and (b) I had pretty much stopped playing and spending all my time arguing with people online.

That was the turning point for me.

I applaud the guys in the video - they know what they like, and they get out there and play it to their audience.  No cringing or eye rolling from me... cool
