Worked for Robert Palmer. Worked for White Snake. Worked for ZZ Top. Works for me!

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

RCFP was never "my thing"...   not quite the ANDY girls.. but... held my attention for a few minutes smile

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party "Don't Be Stingy With the SMPTE" Music Video

I cracked up laughing the first time I saw it. It so fits with the RCFP graphics history (headphones on the boobs, tongue on a lollipop, squatting hottie) And it's so over the top with the women. But it perfectly fits with the late '70's early '80's vibe the guys have going with this band. It's all in good fun. If you notice, the woman playing the keyboard has the thing upside down with the keys on the underside. People who like to pigeon hole Joe, though, will undoubtedly have a field day when they see it. Kind of waiting to see how it all plays out.

I really really like all that has gone before with RCFP (disclaimer). It also worked for Robert Palmer, this doesn't work for me.

Me too, but I'm super cool with that! If you only produce what will appeal to everyone universally, you're not only too narrowly constrained, you're probably also boring.

I'll go back to videos of live performances (thanks Natasha!), the slo-mo guys, Devin Supertramp showing people people having way more fun than me, and guitar pedals run through oscilloscopes. And I don't expect that assemblage has universal appeal either. :-)

I realize that this is just a promo, but I don't care for the song itself. Not a problem, I will still buy it.

As much as I hate to admit it, I feel the same way. I'm sure when I buy the CD the song may grow on me, but right now I think it might be the only song in the entire JB catalog that I hit the skip button.

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party "Don't Be Stingy With the SMPTE" Music Video

I listened to it (I hid the video) and enjoyed it, tapping my foot all the way through. Not my kind of thing, but pretty groovy with some of the old early 1980's drum synth sounds that reminded me of techno-pop acts of my youth, such as Yello and Thomas Dolby. I have no idea why, but when listening to it, I have flashbacks to old American Cop Shows like Kojak, Magnum PI, Miami Vice haha!

Listened again, this time watching the video - erm.... it's a bit weird, the girls are nice... that's it really. Horse for courses though, they have clearly attempted to make it irreverent and strange, a bit like the music in some ways.

It's fun funky background music for me, it's not what I'm into Joe Bonamassa for though, nor is it meant to be. I'm certainly not a fan though, it's not for me and I'll politely pass. I wish them well with it and I'm pretty sure they had fun making the music. smile

They sold out the shows Friday and Saturday so added another day. Thursday July 23 two shows for those that missed out.
We won't be there for that day since we already committed for the two days, but I know some missed the chance.

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party "Don't Be Stingy With the SMPTE" Music Video

Isn't it funny how people will listen to parts of a new release and say "Oh I like that a lot", and then they might buy it at some point or they might not. It happens to me quite often, that I end up not buying it. It's the exact opposite with Joe, he cannot "scare" me off of a new release with one song that may end up growing on me down the road at some point..... a testimony I guess to his continued level of talent and work ethic.

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party "Don't Be Stingy With the SMPTE" Music Video

After listening to the soundcloud sampling of the album that was released recently, it seems to me this "SMPTE" song is one that deviates the most from the other songs they have done in the past or are on this new release. It's got a more techno dance type thing going on. So I find it kind of interesting that they chose it for the first video released. I'm going to reserve judgment on it until I witness it live. We saw the live versions of 6 of the new songs last December and I really enjoyed those. I am very interested in hearing the song "Groove Is King" because from the sample that one sounds pretty bad a$$ and heavy due to Joe's guitar work on it. Looking forward to the Baked Potato shows when we can really hear what they are like live.

The title song if DSOB is different from the rest of that album too
