Topic: Mixing and blending amps

thinking of having a go at using two amps. Current amp available are a Marshall DSL 100h and a line 6 spider111/15watt. I don't think these two would be good companions so anyone out there have ideas as to which complementary amp would go with the Marshall for a fuller or stereo tone. I have access to a Black Star and two old Fenders (not sure of types). Would be connecting via a GigRig G2.

Re: Mixing and blending amps

I would go with a Fender to blend with your Marshall. Two different power tubes and frequency curves...

Re: Mixing and blending amps

There's offsetting things you can do like
marshall dark/fender bright
or one amp wet effects / other amp dry

I like doing a very mild delay on amps that dont have reverb built in, and I like to do dirt through one amp so the other is either clean, or mildly overdriven to give the sound more dimension. Sort of a Had to Cray Today album/Ballad of john Henry album tone goal.

I found (and I think JB would confirm) to setup the amps like they were by themselves so they sound good alone... then add the other amp that also sounds good... and it will sound good.

Re: Mixing and blending amps

I heard him say once that his "mid" amps (two rocks, dumbles etc) often don't sound good on their own because they're filling a gap.  So he sets one to cover the highs and lows (generally his Jubilee) and then the others only cover the mids and no other frequencies.  I think this is so that the two amps aren't competing for each frequency range.

While I'm here I'm in a similar situation as derbio95.  I now also have a DSL and am looking for another head to run it with.  Needs to have good mids but also be able to take a Fuzz Face without bursting into flames.  Sounds like you guys could help us both out here.
